“Walk to Alcock Tarn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

This is a little jewel hidden behind a small crag - very steep but there are some seats and plenty of places to 'perch'. Views from the walk to this tarn are unsurpassable on a good day (for such a short walk). The tarn is very tranquil and path back to Dove Cottage is simply charming!

“A good half day walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Take the path which starts from the lane behind the Swan Hotel , it is a steady climb which rewards with some excellent views. Tarn is at the high point of the walk and the path down which brings you out by Dove Cottage provides endless panoramic views across the area.

“Nice morning's walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Fairly easy walk from Grasmere, taking a couple of hours. We met several families doing the walk. Nice views from the top.

“Amazing View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

The very steep climb gave way to views out of this world. A must sight if ever in the lakes. You could see across to windermere.
It was covered in thick snow on our visit and I must say this gave made for very picturesque views. The tarn itself was half frozen. The way down was quite tricky and slippery. Spent quite some time on my backside!!! An absolute definite walk if in the lakes.

“Spooky saunter to Alcock's Tarn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

No need for the car for this one from Grasmere, but in mist can be like a scene form Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' video.
