“Anniversary Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

My wife and i stayed for 2 nights here over the BH weekend in one of the Superior Lake View rooms on the 2nd Floor. The Hotel is in a beautiful location, has a very high quality interior decor and nice artwork throughout. The room was great with a very comfortable huge bed, excellent bathroom and good multi media tv.
We had breakfast and our evening meals in the hotel and we agreed that both were of a high standard. The Ultimate Burger was delicious!
The hotel is within a 3 minute drive or 10 min walk to Grasmere Village which is a stunning place. Many bistros, bars, restaurants and gift shops and even a Co-op which was handy.
We had lunch in the Lamb Inn and thought the food was very nice there. A good place to stop after a walk.
Also Grasmere is centrally located to many of the other bigger lakes with Windemere being only about 10-15 minutes drive. We went with walking in mind and this is a great area for that as there are many circular walks which can be provided by the hotel reception ranging from easy to difficult. I can highly recommend the Alcock Tarn walk and the Rydal Water, Coffin Trail Walk. Both are circular walks going from the hotel and take around 3 hours.
We both fell in love with this place and cant wait to return.

Stayed here for 1 night over the bank holiday weekend and its a lovely immaculate hotel. Our room was modern and spacious, the location is perfect and the food was great, you couldn't really ask for much more from a hotel we loved our stay there and would certainly come back. The one tiny moan we had was that we had to wait a while at the bar as the bar staff seemed overly busy and were a bit abrupt but apart from that its a great hotel which I would really recommend.

We had a one night stay when a guest at a small wedding taking place at the hotel. On arrival the very pleasant staff check us in quickly at a very a nice reception area. The internal of the hotel are very high quality and new. The room was a valley view but a little disappointing in that being on the first floor was more of a car park view and wasn't high enough to see the valley well. As mentioned in earlier reviews the landscaping of the grounds would improve things dramatically.
The room itself was good and spacious but the lighting needs to be improved. My wife struggled doing her make up with poor lighting getting ready for the wedding. Other wedding guests commented the same . The bed was very comfortable and a super king so good and big.
The other areas within the hotel were of the same high quality and a pleasure to use. We didn't have time to use the Spa facilities but I am told they were excellent.
A really big positive for this hotel is the staff, they nearly out number the guests and are very friendly , nothing was too much bother, they are a credit to the management.
The main area I felt the hotel let itself down in was the food which for me was a big disappointment as I was looking forward to this having had numerous reviews from friends.
The food for the wedding I could accept would not be perfect but none of the guests (only about a dozen or so) seemed to get a high quality meal. The steaks were not cooked as ordered and had it not been a wedding meal, mine would have been return. Medium rare steak should not be dry and grey, it also took about 10 minutes to serve all the mains, again I would have expected better from this hotel.
The breakfast was very average but all the food seemed to have the same taste which wasn't quite right . Bacon, sausage, fried egg and fried bread ,even black pudding all tasted the same and I have had better at a holiday inn. The staff again though it must be said were excellent at breakfast.
Check out was fast , efficient and they even remembered were we lived on wishing us a safe journey, a very nice touch.
So in conclusion, an great hotel with superb staff only let down by the food. If they get the landscaping of the exterior sorted would be a must do if we have a hot summer month.
Would I stay here again, yes , would I eat here again, will probably give one more go.

My family stayed here in May this year (2013). We found the experience absolutely superb with staff very friendly and helpful. My mother is disabled and has an electric wheelchair even though the disabled rooms where taken at the time of booking the hotel where extremely helpful in placing my mother in a room (which has excellent views) on the 1st floor not too far away from the lift. Both our rooms where immaculate with air conditioning to hand. I cannot thank the Daffodil hotel enough and in particular Sarah who could't do enough for us. We look forward to our trip back later this year. The lakes what a beautiful place!

Just a short review really
Daffodil hotel - amazing
Grasmere village - amazing
Tweedies Bar - amazing
Holiday overall - AMAZING
You will not be disappointed and must visit. We cannot wait to return, especially for the treatments in the spa, they worked wonders for our back niggles. The rooms were spotless and clean and the beds were to die for! Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Grasmere was quaint and welcoming with lots of little shops to stroll around and the food at Tweedies was excellent with a brilliant vibrant atmosphere. Sad to leave but planning our next visit for as soon as we can!

I had a family member taken extremely ill on the weekend we were meant to be staying on a no refund or change weekend break. I spoke to the reservations team at the hotel who checked and re booked our stay for a later date. They did it without grumble or argument and I will be eternally grateful to them. You are very nice people and you should be very proud of retaining your good morals over just taking the tourist £. You deserve absolute praise heaped upon you. a big THANK YOU.

Terrific location, across the road from Dove Cottage, lovely views across the lake and within a few minutes walk of Grasmere village. Lots of walking nearby and close to Ambleside. It is new and purpose built so it should be perfect - and for the most part it is.

The building fits in with the local architecture, as you would expect, but it is big so the view as you enter the site is of a rather plain block of grey stone and rows of windows. It isn't helped by the huge wooden fence next to the entrance to the foyer - the fence screens off the service area. However, don't be put off because as soon as you enter the foyer it is a different world. The foyer, passages and rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, quiet and elegant. Unlike so many hotels the corridors are WIDE and spacious, not gloomy tunnels.

Our room was also spacious, with a large bathroom and the most comfortable bed we have had in a while. The furnishings are top quality and we liked the quirky paintings on the way to the restaurant, which is also elegant. If you are lucky you may get a window seat with a super view of the lake. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special for a hotel of this class (and the scrambled egg had a strange taste). The dinner menu leans towards steak (as most do in the area) which limits the choice a bit and the puddings were bog standard. However, our choice of starters and mains turned out to be very good and my wife raved about the vegetarian tart tatin. My lamb cutlets were also very good. There is a huge lounge next to the dining room with loads of comfortable seats and we thoroughly enjoyed reading and having a pot of tea there.

So why only 4 stars? We took our dog (full marks for being dog friendly) and we were told in advance that the room would look out onto the service area. It did, and straight into the windows of the staff rooms. My complaint is that there was only a heavy blind on the window. There was no curtain so by day we had no privacy. Apparently other guests have complained about this so the owners need to get into action.

The bedroom had no trestles for suitcases and the arrangement for hanging suits etc in the cupboards was badly planned. Coat hangers hang across the very narrow cupboards so it is impossible to get something in or out without removing other clothing. The room was lit by only four halogen bulbs in the ceiling and they gave totally inadequate lighting. I could not see well enough to write at the desk in the evening or see the keyboard of my laptop. There was a LED "reading" light on a flexible stalk above the bedside table but it was too short to reach my book if I was lying in bed. I tried putting my book on the bedside table but it was awkward. The shower worked very well but neither of us could get the plug to stay in place in the hand basin (pretty design but poor engineering). This next comment is just a grumpy old man speaking - the mirror has lights that operate when you move the tap! At times it seemed random.

The bottom line is that it is a delightful hotel and we would recommend it, but the owners need to sort out a few niggles.

Room Tip: Make sure it doesn't overlook the service area
