“Oak Bank Hotel, Grassmere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Excellent small hotel in the centre of Grassmere. Very comfortable, individually styled rooms, and a great welcome from the owners who like to make you feel "at home". Wonderful locally sourced food imaginatively prepared by a kitchen that cares!

I think this is the 8th year we have visited Oakbank and it's become a bit of a tradition! The food seems to get better each year and it is a perfect place for us to go as a large party of friends who can eat together then relax in the lounge together afterwards. Thank you once again Simon and Glynis for a lovely relaxing weekend.

Simon and Glynis are not only professionals running a deservedly successful business but also amateurs in the original sense of clearly enjoying what they do. It's a powerful combination.
This was our second 3 night stay prompted by very positive recollections of our visit in March 2012. Our memory was not at fault. The location is good, parking is easy, service is excellent, our welcome was warm and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.
However, the highlight is, as before, the food. To use a well-worn term, the team "punches well above its weight" and, one might add, at a price below its worth!
We understand that after four years a new head chef is about to come into post. We are confident that the Woods will have recruited well and look forward to experiencing the next stage in their culinary journey.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for one of the larger rooms.

Well...the weather was terrible ...thank god for the wonderful Oak bank Hotel. We walked as planned straight from the hotel, perfect location, returning like drowned rats.
to then have the most luxurious evening in a comfortable setting with the most amazing food was just what we required.A member of our party is a chef herself and ...top marks to the Oak Bank Chefs!! It is not very often I take a picture of my dessert but it was a work of art!
Definite for recommending to others and a definite to return to.

The hospitality is second to none, and the food is truly amazing so many outstanding dishes. Our bedroom overlooked the fells and was light, airy and spotless. I would recommend Oak Bank to everyone, you will not be disappointed and will return again and again.

We have stayed at the Oak Bank Hotel in Grasmere at least four times. The first was in 1985 and each visit has been memorable. The service is always first rate and the food has been wonderful. Our last visit of four days in April was the best. The ownership has changed since we were there ten years ago. Our room was very comfortable, the free wifi was useful, the hosts were very accommodating. We are vegetarians and a delicious and artistic dinner that was not on the menu was prepared for us each night. It is difficult to describe how beautifully the food was presented but no dessert, for example, was ever a slice of pie or a dish of ice cream. We shall definitely stay at the Oak Bank again on our next visit to Grasmere.

Our first stay at the Oak Bank and we're already planning to come back in the autumn. The rooms are immaculately clean and furnished beautifully. The beds are really comfy and the food was delicious, healthy and beautifully presented. It was a pleasure to be served canapes in the lounge before dinner. We took along my 90 year old aunt who walked every fell in her younger days. She was thrilled to be back in the Grasmere and enjoyed pottering round the art galleries just a stone's throw away. Glynis and John could not have looked after the three of us better. And for James and I it was a real bonus being able to walk straight out of the hotel up the lane to Easedale Tarn!

Room Tip: We had a room on the second floor with the best view in the hotel! Wonderful to wake up and see the...
