“Great hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

Spent a lovely night at the Wordsworth with family following a long drive from Scotland. Very good, comfortable hotel in a perfect location at a good price. We actually spend some time reviewing a few hotels in the area, the Wordsworth offered the best value Staff very good too!

We stayed in Grasmere just after New Year with several generations of the Family, including dog. It was a wonderful deal, and a lovely comfortable hotel. The food was excellent, the service couldn't have been more pleasant, and friendly. We made good use of the spa, and surrounding countryside, with good access to walks without driving. Thoroughly recommend the hotel and would happily return!

Room Tip: Single room comfortable and good size, but bathroom could do with minor re-furbishment.

Dear 2010Lesley, Thank you very much for posting such a great review for us - it was a pleasure to look after you (and the beautiful dog). Believe it or not, we have had the plumbers in this week, upgarding some bathrooms - so thanks for the feedback. I do hope we are able to welcome you all back in the future. With kindest regards, Geraldine.

Now I prefer to be at home for Christmas but for years her indoors has wanted to go away and this year I gave in.
I sold my kidney and booked 4 nights, arriving on the 23rd Dec and Wow, from the moment we arrived to getting in the car to come home it was a fantastic experience. The service was better than I have experienced anywhere and despite the kidney joke I have been lucky enough to stay in some top hotels around the world. I never did see any chambermaids or their trolleys, the room was always made up while we had breakfast no matter what time that was. As for the food and wine well it was superb in every way. I think the hotel was full but it had the atmosphere of a house party, there was no strangers here, just a bunch of friends that you had not met before. The owners were right there with you and could not have been more helpful.
On leaving in the car to go home a staff member ran to the car with an item we had left in the room, they had obviously quickly checked our room while we were checking out to make sure we had not left anything. This is just one example of the level of service the great staff provide.
Was I impressed? You bet. It won't be last time I stay here that's for sure!!!!
I could go on but I can see I'm getting carried away.
I will leave you with a couple of nice touches, the Hotel gave us two wrapped presents that was placed on our bed and on the Christmas eve walk around the lake at the half way point the staff that were leading the walk broke out with enough hot mulled wine, mince pies and cake to start a party. That's it from me, Happy New Year to all the staff and thanks for giving us a fantastic Christmas.

Room Tip: Any rooms will be fine

Dear Cuskie, thanks so much for taking the time to post your review. It is very rewarding to see our Housekeeping team mentioned - they work very hard and yet you are right - they are probably the team you will never see! It was a great atmosphere, but genuinely, as much as we worked hard - all of our guests were fabulous and really made the Festive period, one to remember. I look forward to seeing you again. With kind regards, Geraldine.

We found the Wordsworth on the web a few months ago and decided that due to its good reviews it would probably be a good place to spend Christmas. We had a slightly reduced our expectations due to the number of rooms as we wondered if the owners and staff could maintain a friendly and intimate feel with so many guests, we are pleased to say that our expectations were exceeded!
From the moment we arrived we were made to fell very welcome, the staff were friendly and efficient throughout our entire stay. The owners, Iain and Jackie, and their daughter Jemma were always around to make sure that everyone was having a great time, they always found time for a chat with the guests and Iain made an excellent MC encouraging everyone to join in the festive singing on Christmas Eve!
The food was amazing, the tasting menu with the various wines on the first evening was particularly outstanding, a good way to try different wines with the many courses.
Our bedroom was clean and well appointed, the bathroom had recently been refurbished.
Whilst we have a policy of not returning to the same hotel year after year the Wordsworth is certainly on our "one's to revisit" list!
Thanks to everyone for a wonderful time !

We would like to thank Iain and Jackie and all the staff at the Wordsworth for our fabulous Festive break! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, despite them having to pamper to all the guests needs!

Our break was a food extravaganza made extra special by the lovely little touches that enhanced the stay. Our room, 27, was more than large enough for the 2 of us with a great 4 poster bed. The recently refurbished bathroom included a whirlpool bath and Villeroy and Boch sanitaryware.

Fabulous food, fabulous hosting, wonderful atmosphere and everyone we talked to enjoyed their stay. What a brilliant way to spend Christmas in the Lakes, we can certainly recommend it.

A big thank you again to all the staff.

Recently visited this hotel with my wife. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we felt very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Any requests we had were dealt with professionally and promptly. All the staff were wonderful, however Jerry stood out he was helpful, courteous, polite and a real asset to the hotel.

The food in the restaurant was exquisite, again no complaints here.

We look forward to our return and thanks to all for a wonderful break.
