“Wonderful few days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

The Old Rectory is a charming building and very warm and cosy. The view from the dining room is superb especially with the autumn colours. The welcome from Ann and her staff was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and thank you for dealing with a special diet so well.

Our room was very comfortable. The food was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful. We could not have asked for more.
The view from the lovely light dining room is glorious - especially with the beautiful autumn colours. This is a wonderful base for exploring the Lakes. We will be back.
Thank you for a lovely couple of days.

We enjoyed our stay very much .. our plan was to spend some days walking .. it is easy to walk the 2.5 miles to Coniston from here and it is very close to other more strenuous routes .. no need to take the car. Great breakfast which set us up for the day. Evening meals were varied, well presented and most enjoyable .. Ann (owner) does the cooking. The dining room is very bright and has a nice view over the surrounding fields. It is a most relaxing place to be in. Ann and her team of 2 other Ann's and Christine were all helpful and chatty. If we return to this area then this will be our first choice. Thank you all.

We stayed in the Garden room to accommodate our 2 dogs.
The beat thing I can say about The Old Rectory is that you have to try it. Ann and her staff really do go above and beyond the call of duty to make your stay a pleasant experience. The food, coffee, tea, flapjacks etc are all prepared with love and care making them the best quality we think that you would find in the area. The friendly atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and gorgeous accommodation make this place a must stay for anyone needing accommodation in the area.
The location is just something else, just a few minutes walk from Lake Coniston or a couple of village pubs in Torver, the shining beacon is the view ! Sit outside and gaze up at The Old Man of Coniston, the iconic view of the area.
That aside it is also so easy to jump in your car and be in any of the surrounding towns, villages and attractions within minutes.
The garden room itself is just perfect, the mattress super comfy, home baked flapjacks on arrival, mini bar, tea, coffee and Hot Chocolate making facilities, fresh milk not the long life rubbish cartons that you get at lesser places.
The bathroom is great, powerful shower and copious amounts of hot water.
The breakfast is nothing short of an English classic with abundant choice served with a smile and how nice to have fabulous coffee, so often forgotten by other establishments. The optional evening meal cooked by Ann is better than any local eatery, you have my word !!
Overall a fantastic base to explore the Lake District with friendly welcoming people and clean comfortable accommodation, go you will not regret it.

Anne is such a wonderful host. The cake and tea on arrival is lovely, especially when you have arrived after a long journey. The rooms are lovely and the setting is magnificent. Breakfast is a good start to the day and we have really found this a home from home. Thanks Anne and her staff, Kate & James Windsor

My wife, baby son and I stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful time. Ann and her time are fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, even accomodating my 5:30am start on the Sunday. The rooms were great, excellent mattresses(!) and the food was outstanding. Can't wait to return...

We broke up our journey home from the Highlands of Scotland with a three night stay at this lovely old house set in beautiful countryside close to Lake Coniston. Owner and staff all looked after us well, from the welcoming sherry and flapjacks on arrival to one of the best breakfasts any of us could remember. Our dog too was made welcome - we stayed in the Garden Room which, as its name suggests, is set apart from the house with access to the extensive gardens - she was very happy exploring the grounds! The room itself was delightful - beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfortable - the bathroom was outstanding and the bed was wonderful.

The location is ideal for exploring the southern lakes area - we visited the Eskdale Railway, Old Man of Coniston and of course the lake itself, all of which were well worth the journey. All in all, a superb base for exploring this beautiful corner of England.

Warning - local restaurants may close earlier than you are used to in the city - don't leave it too late to go out to eat!

Room Tip: The Garden Room is perfect if you're travelling with a dog or would like somewhere a little more...
