“Wish we could have stayed longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Lovely house, friendly hosts, good breakfast - what more can one ask for? Unfortunately we were only able to stay for one night but would certainly consider staying again if visiting the Northern Lakes.

Sue and Bev provide excellent accommodation. The rooms are clean, comfortable and full of character. Dufton House is a beautiful building with a lovely garden which provides the ideal setting for a holiday in the Lake District.
Sue's homemade meals are not to be missed-especially the cooked breakfast which sets you up for the rest of the day.
I would highly recommend Dufton House and look forward to returning again next year.

Wonderful people, genuine hospitality, and the most comfortable big bed. An historic house with lovely furnishings giving it an authentic experience of staying in a special home in this special part of The Lakes. Bev even took us on a walk which started with a boat trip and ended with hot soup and amazing view high up on a clear day. It was all very special and I will always have fond memories of my too short visit.

WOW! How, or where do I start with my review? I've hit a hurdle, and stuck for words. What a fantastic place to stay at. A gorgeous property. On arrival, there were our hosts to greet us, with such warmth, and a lovely welcome. After a long drive, you couldn't have asked for more, as along came a smashing pot of tea, and some slices of cake. Off to be shown our room, and good lord, they are huge, with a bathroom to die for. My bed was that comfy, I was out like a light, only to awake, to the best cooked breakfast to set you up for the day. Bev and Sue are wonderful couple, who are friendly, approachable, and very easy to chat with. It's just such a shame, that we only had the one night stay. But on that note, I know where I shall booking on a return trip to the lakes.

A special thankyou for Bev and Sue, as I can't stress how much we enjoyed, and appreciated them having us.

Best regards. Daron, Lisa, and Lynn.

Dufton house is tucked away in High Brigham and is a lovely treasure to find. Bev and Sue give you a warm welcome into their beautiful house and you soon feel right at home. The bedroom is at the top of a stone staircase, is well equipped and has a bed that is comfier than my own! The ensuite is roomy and both rooms overlook the well kept, secluded garden.
Sue makes a great breakfast to set you up for the day and Bev's knowledge of walking the area is invaluable when planning your day.
Nothing is too much trouble, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly - great when you are travelling alone.

Found Dufton House on the internet, an email and phone call got us booked. Knew from the phone call that it was going to be OK, but it turned out to be a lot better than at.

Arrived relatively late at 20:30 to be warmly greeted with the offer of a hot drink. The room was great, nice size with large traditional furniture, a massive radiator and wooden shutters to keep the warmth in. The room sparkled, not a speck of dust in sight. Lots of nice little touches, a bar of chocolate on the tea tray, a piece of homemade cake, fresh milk in a flask, white fluffy dressing gowns in the wardrobe and even a box of tissues beside the bed.

We needed to get an early start the next morning and an early breakfast was no problem. Breakfast included fresh fruit salad, a selection of fresh berries, juices, yoghurt and cereal. We chose the ‘Full English’ which was a very generous plateful, carefully cooked, with no hint of grease. The hand cut brown toast went down a treat.

Sue and her husband Bev are perfect hosts, they are warm and friendly without being at all pushy. Nothing was too much trouble and we’re really looking forward to a return visit.

Our only regret was that we hadn’t pre-booked for dinner, but we will do next time.
