“Unlucky for some...booking essential?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014 NEW

Booking essential - unable to review food as we couldn't get in.

We were in Ambleside for a weekend, stopping at the Fisherbeck which is immediately opposite (I can highly recommend). After a long day we were out early to find somewhere to eat( around 6pm / 615pm). As The Log House was immediately opposite we thought we would try there. We walked in, we hadn't booked, I realise this is sometimes essential, but I think there was only one couple in at the time. We were informed they were expecting a large party in so couldn't fit us in. I may be wrong but unless the party were taking over the whole restaurant. I found it odd they couldn't squeeze us in. I did feel it was maybe more to do with our clothing for the evening( we were in (long)shorts etc)- it had been a hot day, and it is The Lakes after all. We have been to restaurants before and if they are busy, they have suggested " if you can vacate your table by a certain time - we can squeeze you in.

May be we'll get chance to try it on another occasion, the menu looked nice, but was a bit pricey compared to other places. I have to say I'd be tempted to try elsewhere first.

“Underwhelmed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014 NEW via mobile

Stayed for three nights. View from room at the rear was amazing and staff friendly enough. But, kitchen made upstairs very hot and smell of fry food. Didn't try food apart from breakfast (inc in the room price). Don't be fouled by the coffee machine - it's only used as a fancy kettle to make instant coffee.

Walk further into ambelside and stay elsewhere.

“Second visit better than First”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014 NEW via mobile

Went two nights in succession last week, having visited numerous times over the last six/seven years. The first night mine was luvly however,my partners duck was not good at all.We did pass thus on to the waitress who said the chef sent his apologies. As we had already booked for the following night we went again. How pleased we were that we did. Both had the quail and then the lamb.Wow -both were superb. It isn't cheap but you get what you pay for and we will definitely be back on our next visit to ambleside. If you like quality over quantity the log house is perfect.Would definitely recommend.Staff and surroundings wonderful too.

“Fantastic meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 NEW

Our Group of 12 enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Log House on Saturday 5th July.
The quality of the food was excellent as was the service.
3 course meal was turned into a 5 course with 2 complimentary dishes.
Cost was £30 for the food - very good value.
Will definitely go again.

“Very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

We've been going to Ambleside for years and hadn't tried this restaurant before but we're glad we did. Excellent food. We had the duck and it was cooked perfectly. The ambience was slightly lacking, the interior is brightly lit and could have been improved by some soft lighting. But we couldn't fault the food. There is a pay and display car park opposite but it's free to park on the road after 6pm.
