“Great location for walking & a romantic break.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

I booked a weekend break at The Fisherbeck due to the really good reports on Tripadvisor for Fri 17th to Sun 19th May 2013. I had not stopped in Ambleside before and my girlfriend and I were really impressed with how close the hotel was to the town centre. About a 5 min stroll, near but not right in there. The hotel was spotless and my girlfriend liked the Sanderson furnishings (I had no idea but wallpaper & curtains to the uninitiated) in our room. Check in was smooth & ordered pack up for our walk the following day. The owner was knowledgeable about the local area and as we were dining out he gave us some good recommendations about local restaurants in Ambleside. They even have a drying room for your walking gear etc! Breakfast was great with plenty of choice on the menu. Slept like logs for both nights of our stay. Would I stop here again, definateley. Would I recommend Ambleside, definately. It's got plenty of restaurants, pubs and one or two bars all of good quality. Was my girlfriend impressed, definately!

We only stayed here because we were let down at the last minute by The Log House which is opposite the Fisherbeck, the hotel is very nice and spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and efficient. We came for our wedding anniversary and on arrival there was a small bottle of bubble for us, a very nice and thoughtful touch. The room was large enough and very comfortable with a whirlpool bath, the only downside and the reason that I haven't given it full marks is as our room was at the rear there was some early morning noise from the road and the bin men (Wednesday) I know that someone has to stay at the back I just wish that it haven't been us. The breakfasts are magnificent and the service is faultless, the snacks and drinks during the day are very good and are reasonably priced, I just wish that they did evening meals because if they were as good as the breakfasts you wouldn't want to eat out.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to write your review and we are just pleased that we were able to accommodate you at the last minute.

Actually we have regular guests who debate the front/back room issue as usually the rear rooms are rather quiet with just a very narrow, less used road behind us. But, much to the envy of many these days we do have all our bins emptied once a week, so actually we feel rather fortunate. But I do apologize it was on your watch. If you do return you will have to try a front facing room.

Thank you again and kind regards

This is our second stay at the Fisherbeck and we cannot praise it highly enough. The staff are very friendly, efficient and professional. The owners, Ray and Gill went out of their was to make us feel welcome. Last time we stayed in the main Hotel which was excellent, this time we were in room 14, one of the garden rooms which was even better. Great room, lovely comfy bed, large bathroom with super big bath and separate rain shower. patio doors open onto your own patio area, a great place to enjoy a glass of wine if the weather is fine.

The hotel is well situated, just a short walk allows you to leave the car in the car park and walk into the village to the shops and restaurants, or an equally quick walk the other way takes you to the lake.

The whole breakfast experience was wonderful, we didn't have to ask for anything, the service was seamless and fast. Great full Lakeland cooked breakfast.

If you want a great, resonably priced luxury Hotel in Ambleside this is the place. We will return soon.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and choose a Garden Room, well worth it

My wife and I went on a one night trip to ambleside for a small get away. The Fisherbeck had an excellent price so we booked in. When we arrived, we were greeted with a free coffee. We then sat down for a cheese tray and refreshment, which was excellent. Having not ever been to Ambleside, we asked Raymond and company for some recommendations of things to do and places to see. We went for a 5 minute walk into town from the restaurant and then the staff booked us into a lovely restaurant across the street. The staff were "spot on" with their recommendations. We then woke up to a wonderful 4 course breakfast. The hotel was clean and staff very accomodating. Will definitely stay at the Fisherbeck again!!

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to write your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.

As well as trying to get things right here at The Fisherbeck we do also think it's important that we have a bit of local knowledge so that we can send our guests off in the right direction for good food, activities, walks or shops and so on. It sounds like we got some of that right for you.

Thank you again and we do hope you will think of us again if you are planning a trip to Ambleside. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind regards

Stayed for 3 nights over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend having stayed several times before. The hotel is superbly well managed by the owners who are very hands on and ensure service is always 1st class from the minute you book in to the minute you book out.We stayed in room 2 with balcony and fell views, spa bath, walk in shower and under floor heating it was immaculate. The breakfast is everything you could want and more and lite bites and a lovely range of wines and other drinks are available through out the day should you wish to sit and watch the world go by from the hotel lounge. The hotel is easy walking in just a matter of minutes to the centre of Ambleside.Fantastic break thank you Fisherbeck we shall be back very soon!!

Room Tip: Room 2 excellent for views and balcony to sit out.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to write your review. It is very much appreciated.

Room 2 I think is possibly my favourite room with the super king sized bed, spa bath, separate shower and his & hers wash hand basins. The views from there are lovely and the balcony is spacious enough to sit and relax and watch the world go by. We have been blessed with some fabulous weather recently and guests arrived into this room today and have already enjoyed a wonderful afternoon sitting outside in their own private space.

I have to admit though, I have still not stayed in the room myself....I must try the spa bath one day!!

Thank you again and we do hope we will be able to welcome you back to The Fisherbeck in the not too distant future.

Kind regards

Stayed here Fri-Mon for my wife's 50th birthday treat. The area is beautiful and the hotel certainly matches the scenery. We stayed in room 2 which had a spa bath and balcony looking toward the fells(fantastic).Champagne in room on arrival was very nice touch. The hotel is kept immaculatety clean. The bed was enormous and under floor heating in bathroom great. The breakfast menu was extensive with home-made specials and extremely attentive staff. It is not cheap to stay here but you get what you pay for and we did not begrudge the price at all.Just one small point-at breakfast it felt like you were being watched all the time by the staff to clear plates away etc-as i said very attentive but slightly un-nerving

Room Tip: room 2 excellent with balcony and VIEWS!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review and we are so pleased you had an enjoyable celebratory weekend away.

Room 2 is becoming quite a favourite amongst our guests and this week is no exception, being booked out completely and folks making the most of the quite spacious and private balcony area in this fabulous weather that we are having.
Thank you again.

Kind regards

This was our 3rd stay at the Fisherbeck and was every bit as enjoyable as the first two. The hotel is spotlessly clean. Our room at the back of the hotel was compact but adequate. We had clean towels every day, plenty of toiletries and a fresh supply of filtered water daily. The breakfast is amazing. A lovely choice of different and beautifully cooked locally produced food. There were also some different daily specials on offer. Everything is served to the table by a very efficient and polite staff. The whole experience is very relaxing and we really looked forward to going down for breakfast. Well done to Gillian and Raymond and many thanks for another enjoyable stay at the Fisherbeck.
