“Cakes & Gifts Galore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

After a long walk from Ellterwater we stopped at Chesters for lunch. A great selection of homemade cakes, oven baked pizza made freshly on the premises, feta cheese frittata and butternut squash pies. Chesters is a very popular destination so either stop off early or you need to be patient. After making the difficult choices of what to choose you can wonder around the shop which stocks numerous gifts, wines, beers and great local slate artefacts

“Still love my visits to Chesters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

A visit to the lakes is not the same without the regulatory visit to Chesters! Lovely food as always even able to sit outside having managed nice weather in February. Always hard to choose which cake to try, usually change mind five times in queue. Recent one excelled was a sticky ginger and pear cake which was just being put out, absolutely gorgeous. Always enjoy any visit there often extremely busy for a seat but now with the two sides this eases up. Love the soups and recent discovery of homemade piccalilli. Even able to buy some to take home from the shop.

Well worth a visit and you get what you pay for, already looking forward to our next time just a shame not something similar where we live.

“Brilliant food served and well worth the wait”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

We visited Chesters after a walk around Loughrigg Tarn. We visited at about 1.30pm and there were no free tables inside. I was almost put off by the queues but my partner insisted on staying and I found a table outside to sit at. Our drinks and food arrived quickly and the waiters were very friendly. The food was brilliant, priced as you would expect for an establishment like this and it was definitely worth the wait!

If you are near by it is definitely worth a visit!

“Fantastic Food, great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We always try and visit Chesters when we're in the lakes. Breakfast is what we prefer to go for but the selection and quality of cakes is outstanding. They are not cheap though you do get what you pay for!

“Nice if you don’ mind waiting in queue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This place must be good judging by the car park which is usually full at peak time and getting a table may require a wait. Food and drinks are ordered at the counter and waiters deliver to your table. It has a great location by a scenic river and the food is good but expensive. The venue is dog friendly. Pizzas are cooked to order in a wood fired oven. Cakes and refreshments are their speciality and some alcoholic drinks are available.

It’s a nice place to stop off at after a walk on the fells. My advice would be to avoid peak times because Chesters does get very busy.
