“Chunky fresh fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Had a large fish and chip take-out, shared with hubby today, as portion size amazing. Chips were cooking as we entered the chip shop/cafe, and the fish we requested was cooked to order.
All the food was piping hot, and it was the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. The fish was fresh and really chunky white flesh, beautifully cooked, as were the chips chunky and fresh.
It was a lovely treat on a cold and winters day in Ambleside. Absolutely worth a visit. Seating area looked good as well should you choose to eat in.

“excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Freshly cooked fish and chips can not be beaten when the heavens open in the lakes. The smithy delivers great value and pretty much the best chippy fish I've eaten in an age, well worth a visit.

“Surprisingly nice”

The fish and chips from here definitely fell into the pretty nice category. Reasonably priced and a pleasant seating area inside.

“Proper Fish and Chips”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012 via mobile

Two things tend to make me angry when out eating and drinking: bad fish and chips and bad real ale. Both are priced as premium products but, too often, what one receives is anything but. The Old Smithy, I am delighted to say, produces fish and chips just as they should be. The fish is firm, fresh and moist; and they actually bother to skin it- fantastic! It is also encased in light, crisp golden batter.
The seating area is spacious and the staff friendly and courteous. If you want good fish and chips, you can't go wrong here.
