“Simply Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

I stayed here for a business trip in the new Brimstone hotel and it was as I said simply stunning. You have a host who meets you at the door and looks after you. There is a reading room with drinks (wine / water / soft drinks) all complimentary along with sandwiches.

The swimming pool was very good, the gym was a bit dated but effective. Evening meal was, how can I put it, fine dining.....very tasty but not much of it for a bunch of sales engineers after a busy day. Sandwiches came in handy later.

Taking nothing away from the hotel it was beautiful in every detail.

Room Tip: Brimstone is the future!

Called in for lunch, after waiting 15mins decided to find a waiter to place my order. Mains were ok - chic ceasar salad & risotto- alough for £12 the salad was on small side. Tiramisu & sticky toffee pudding were ordered along with coffee's - @4.95 it's a shame the tiramisu was bought in, as it was served still frozen inside. Overall nice place/location- let down by slow, unattentive staff (The Terrace Bar), and average over priced food.

My husband and I stayed at Langdale for our 1st wedding anniversary and it was beautiful. Such a beautiful location and the room was lovely. We had the 7 course tasting menu which they adapted for me as I don't eat seafood and everything was absolutely delicious. The staff were really attentive and friendly. We will definitely be going again

This is a great hotel with very beautiful grounds. The room is quite large by UK standards. A Jacuzzi tub( that we probably won't use ). All new fixtures in the bathroom . Two restaurants that are both quite nice. It is spread out so it does involve a bit of a walk to your room. Window treatments and carpets are a bit worn and dated. You can sit out around the pond and eat which is very nice. The people all seem very friendly and helpful

Room Tip: The cottages around the pond are spectacular

I have been going to the Langdale Hotel for years. It is in a beautiful setting amongst the fells. The ponds, watermill, river & trees in the grounds create a tranquillity despite it being a fairly busy place. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The pool and spa area are a big plus especially as you can use them all day after checking out. There are 2 restaurants, a cafe/bar and a local pub which serves food. The food is all of a high standard. The main restaurant is expensive for dinner but very good. I have always enjoyed staying at Langdale but I found it a lot busier last year and the staff were not as relaxed and friendly as they had been previously. At breakfast the waitresses seemed to be 'stressed' and we had to keep asking them for things. Perhaps they were just having a bad day...I hope so because I would like to go back to Langdale.

Regularly visit the resort this time staying in the hotel. Large well equipped room, v comfy bed BUT it had been recently decorated in dark grey and green making what was already a dark room even darker! Great breakfast although having to pay extra for kippers and smoked salmon was a little disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Very attentive and friendly staff and the grounds are lovely to walk around even in the rain!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I stayed here for 2 nights in room 120 which is off the main hotel complex. It was a lovely estate but nothing special. Signs to the main car park could be better as I was not the only one who got a little lost coming in as the estate is made up of lodges. Another visitor coming up in to the estate, already on the grounds was asking me for directions to get to the main car park. Not a good start.

Check in was ok. No real problems here. Room 120 was the Heather room (reminded me of Premier Inn interior). Like other guests before me, the rooms are rather basic and not just for the price paid. Not enough pillows and was disappointed with the stickiness of the bathroom floor upon entering. There was a spa bath which was quite rewarding. I found the room rather dark. Lighting inadequate. The room was on the ground floor, it was a shame to have netting up and not see the views upon entering the room.

Good choice of restaurants. I ate at the Terrace which is like an indoor lobby setting. Good stone baked pizzas. The last night I ate at Hobson’s bar. Going late (at around 9:30pm) the waiter was rather curt and got quite obnoxious at my friend for being a little undecided about food!?!? (Food stopped serving at 10pm) which I found rather disappointing. It was the weekend after all.

Health centre was fairly good. A good size pool. Again temperature a little cold and I am not the only visitor to comment on this. Good size sauna and steam room, with an additional spa/whirlpool. Changing area was very clean with all amenities. Staff was quite enthusiastic.

My overall stay was a pleasant one. But not exceedingly fantastic for a hotel that prides itself as a luxury resort/ estate. Overall customer service was a bit sloppy. (I may be biased – as my expectations may be higher than normal). Other visitors commented on a lounge room – I have to agree it did resemble an elderly lounge – which is a shame it could be lightened up, mod cons etc… used as a sitting area etc… Lots of umbrellas on offer for Cumbrian weather.

Breakfast was good. Hot and cold buffet on but no choice of eggs.

Check out is 10:30am which is rather early for me on a weekend break. I asked for late checkout which was at a cost of 20 pounds for an extra 1 ½ hours. To me this is not going over and above for a guest and should ideally be free and at the discretion of management.

Although a pleasant stay, nice surroundings, location a little isolated but OK if you want isolation.

Overall, it was not polished enough for my liking and not deserving of its “luxury” status.
Recommended but I shall not be staying again.

Room Tip: Room 120 - this is the "Heather Room". If you like Premier Inn decor ( purple) then do go...
