“A little bit of heaven in the lake district”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Went for a weekend of walking with the wife and chose the Langdale as I liked the idea of a cabin within a hotel. We checked in and asked for an upgrade and ended up in a Waterside Feature room. All I can say about this room is WOW!!! Its about a 1 min walk from reception in a separate converted cottage type of building. It was amazing. It was the seclusion of staying in a cottage with the convenience of staying in a hotel.

It never feels very busy. Its only on the last day of our stay when we went for a swim in the pool that we discovered that it actually was. This is now easily one of my favorite hotels in Britain. Super staff and in such a lovely location.

One warning would be that if like me you live on your mobile phone then you are in trouble. There is very little phone reception anywhere as you are in a valley. If, on the other hand, you are after a quiet, peaceful, scenic weekend away then this place is fantastic.

Also – the fridge in the room is massive so make sure you stop off at the local corner shop to stock up on supplies before you arrive.

Room Tip: Waterside Feature room - great value for money

Not cheap, but lovely rooms with impeccable service from cheerful staff. Only minor criticism....I suspect the breakfast cafetiere soundly hold instant coffee. The breakfasts, otherwise, are sumptuous. Several dining opportunities on site varying from on the expensive side to 'you must be joking!', but overall a delight and in a superb location.

Room Tip: No advice.

Hardy walkers, especially in the paradise of the Lake District, expect a bit of rough...
But not here. It's relax and enjoy all the way, mind you it can be at a price-- but worth it. Currently a new nicely-designed and appropriate slated front hotel is rising on the site, presumably to take on the traditional rooms of the site.
But the grandeur of the surroundings is everything in this wonderful valley and the estate itself has much to commend it, from food to leisure and the woodland inside which it sits. But, no, you're nut necessarily in the middle of nowhere; in the edge at each end is a small village with pub etc and a short walk away by the river is a feast of food at a well-established eating-hole.
But back to the Langdale Estate itself. An option worth considering is renting one of the many timeshare units on the site, most in ideal locations. (In truth that's what we did after a hotel stay... but that's another story).

Room Tip: Make sure you can at least have a view of the hills around you; otherwise try those alongside the st...

I only went to the spa but there seemed to be a dull atmosphere in reception. There were lots of girls milling about but I was not made to feel welcome or offered a drink or magazine.
Holly gave me a good treatment but there seemed no luxury or pampering.
Will not go back for treatments.

In need of some R&R and for my husbands birthday we spent a couple of nights in a standard room on this old estate. This was not long enough; we didn't even get to use the Spa. The room was separate from the main hotel and up an outside stairwell but parking was close by so not too much trouble with luggage at all. We had a large king size room with a large bathroom with spa bath and separate shower! Ideal for weary limbs after trying to climb the peaks!
The staff were all delightful, genuinely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fabulous and beautifully cooked with plenty to stock up on & keep you going throughout the day. We ate mainly at the local pub down the road also owned by the hotel so you can charge all food & drink to your room - very easy. Food was delicious and prices were reasonable. There was some construction going on for some amazing looking suites but this did not really affect us. The only small issue was nowhere to leave your wet/ dirty outdoor gear except in the room on the floor .

Room Tip: All the standard rooms are good, for something really special try a suite

Second visit to the hotel even better than the first visit. We had a brilliant water feature room well worth paying the extra money. Everything about the hotel is brilliant the spa is lovely although quite busy during the day it gets quieter late on. The service is outstanding and the breakfasts are lovely with nothing too much trouble for the staff. A very nice stay.

Room Tip: the water feature rooms are great.

My husband and I recently spent two nights for a very special occasion.

We were upgraded to the "ultimate" room, I can only say WOW and thank you

We had an amazing dinner at Purdey's, what can I say, the best of the best, food and service were top notch .

Michael made our stay very special, his knowledge about the estate and the area was second to none and was always on hand o help with any of our needs!

Will be back next time we will be in the UK
