“New owners-same high standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2010

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and wondered what the changes would be now the hotel is under new ownership. The changes are mainly to the decor and furnishing, however the structural alterations to the bar/Talot bar really open the area up. The lounges are more cosy and the redecoration to the dining room makes the room much more light. Service is excellent altough the receptionist could be more welcoming ! Changes to menu with loss of one course did not deflect our enjoyment of the meals. The menu changes daily and is very varied. We really enjoyed our three night stay and look forward to many more visits.

Old fashioned, boring public areas, bedrooms, accepting limed size, fine for short stay
Understaffed, one poor lady doing reception, dinner orders, bar, wine and part service, no management to be seen. Food variable, sometimes OK then overcooked.
Great position for walking, leave the car and walk in any direction.
All in all good value for money but could be a gem if properly managed and more care taken with food

Stayed at Skelwith Bridge Hotel recently for 2 nights.
The deluxe room was spacious with a king size bed and ususal amenities. Very clean and well maintained.
Food was excellent. Breakfast had a good selection of cereals and fruit juice and various options for a cooked breakfast. Evening meal was very good with a varied menu to suit all tastes. Quality and presentation was first class.
Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good location, will definitely return.

This was probably the worst meal experience in the Lakes over 30 years. The staff were disinterested and surly. We had to pay for everything up front..No Tabs. Food was the worst of "boil in a bag " catering. No fire on a cold night and no atmosphere. We had eaten here on 2 occassions 4 years ago so were most upset.

We stayed at Skelwith Bridge Hotel for 2 nights in the school break.
The room was very nice, clean and well maintained.
Breakfast - Good selection of cereals and fruit juice. Cooked breakfast very nice. Evening meal was very very good, but a little disappointed the menu variaty from one night to the other only changed by one dish (fish replaced by another fish dish everything else the same as night before). The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel is fantastic.
We will definatly visit again.

Ive just read, quite shocked some of the negative views of Skelwith Bridge hotel. We regularily stay in 4/5 star hotels which dont get me wrong are wonderful, however modern & contemporary - lovely if you like that extrem modern style.
Having had some bad news we visited Skelwith tfor the first time to 'get away from things' - thats what we did.
On arrival Reception was warm, cosy & traditional. Staff were impeccable who couldnt help us enough. We booked dinner bed and breakfast and in our error ate in the pub attached to the hotel on our first night. This was rectified by staff who then credited us back the money as our meal in the pub was less expensive than had we of ate in the fantastic restaurant, which, was spacious nicely decorated with the highest standards of food - there was so much choice and nothing was too much trouble for the professional, warming and genuinely pleasant staff.
Our room was warm, comfortable & spacious, with all requirements you would need - one thing, although small, which added to our comfort was the hot water bottle in the wardrobe - very welcoming after a busy day out.
I can only presume guest reviews which state the hotel is in need of decoration and is old fashioned may not appreciate the traditional feel of a hotel. Yes it is old fashioned - but not in need of redecoration and by no means tatty. The furnishings only add to the origional beauty of the place.
I work in leisure & tourism and regularily recommend this place to clients who only ever come back to me with positive reviews. I have been back to Skelwith since my visit in March and will without a doubt be visiting again, hopefully in the very near future. Thank you Skelwith Birdge Hotel & Staff for truly wonderful short breaks away!!!
