“Friendly staff, Great location, dog friendly.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2010

We stayed at Skelwith Bridge Hotel for 2 nights in the school break.
The room was very nice, clean and well maintained.
Breakfast - Good selection of cereals and fruit juice. Cooked breakfast very nice. Evening meal was very very good, but a little disappointed the menu variaty from one night to the other only changed by one dish (fish replaced by another fish dish everything else the same as night before). The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel is fantastic.
We will definatly visit again.

Ive just read, quite shocked some of the negative views of Skelwith Bridge hotel. We regularily stay in 4/5 star hotels which dont get me wrong are wonderful, however modern & contemporary - lovely if you like that extrem modern style.
Having had some bad news we visited Skelwith tfor the first time to 'get away from things' - thats what we did.
On arrival Reception was warm, cosy & traditional. Staff were impeccable who couldnt help us enough. We booked dinner bed and breakfast and in our error ate in the pub attached to the hotel on our first night. This was rectified by staff who then credited us back the money as our meal in the pub was less expensive than had we of ate in the fantastic restaurant, which, was spacious nicely decorated with the highest standards of food - there was so much choice and nothing was too much trouble for the professional, warming and genuinely pleasant staff.
Our room was warm, comfortable & spacious, with all requirements you would need - one thing, although small, which added to our comfort was the hot water bottle in the wardrobe - very welcoming after a busy day out.
I can only presume guest reviews which state the hotel is in need of decoration and is old fashioned may not appreciate the traditional feel of a hotel. Yes it is old fashioned - but not in need of redecoration and by no means tatty. The furnishings only add to the origional beauty of the place.
I work in leisure & tourism and regularily recommend this place to clients who only ever come back to me with positive reviews. I have been back to Skelwith since my visit in March and will without a doubt be visiting again, hopefully in the very near future. Thank you Skelwith Birdge Hotel & Staff for truly wonderful short breaks away!!!

Five months ago I booked two luxury rooms for four nights during October half term. Unfortunately, the hotel put us in two basic (and very tired) rooms, failed to inform us in advance but worse still omitted to tell us when we checked in. However, they seemed more than happy to charge us the luxury room rate, presumably in the hope that we would not notice the difference. This is highly dishonerable. When we pointed this out to reception - having spotted far nicer rooms in the hotel - they were quick to adjust our room rate to the standard rate but offered no other gesture. We wished to speak to the manager but they were not to be on site for three days! The rooms we stayed in were clearly in need of refurbishment and some of the fittings, particularly in the bathroom, were very unclean.

To balance this review the food was excellent and the service from the waiting staff was very good, with the exception of one rather surly waitress who frankly let down her colleagues.

We checked out a day early; enough was enough!

I stayed here for one night on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. I had a single room, which was exactly that, a single bed. The room was clean and comfy but the shower in the bathroom was fairly rubbish and hard to use.
Dinner was very average, everything had clearly been microwvaved and although not untasty it was quite bland. Breakfast was a far nice affair with a good choice.
Staff all very friendly.
I wouldn't want to stay here for any length of time, but for 1 or 2 nights with the great DBB offer I had, I really couldn't beat it.

Really enjoyed our stay at Skellwth Bridge, very clean , had a great room, but on arrival we were met by a very stressed recepionist who had computor problems,so we had to wait.!!
We felt that the hotel needed a presence of an owner or manager who had the interests of the clients at heart, a personnel touch, the staff were good but lacked personality
We must compliment the chef as food was excelent

Overall very disappointing stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location but the rooms and public areas are just so old fashioned and crying-out for investment. We actually had a family room (7) which was in desperate need of refurbishment. The bedroom door was a very thin, old 1970s laminate with a creaking steel handle. The breakfast menu also lacked any imagination and the service on the desk lacked any personal attention. Such a shame. If it wasn't for the weather and the location we would have left early. Not recommended - and for £250 for the room for 2 nights, this was definitely NOT good value!
