“Great Location Perfect for walkers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013 via mobile

Great rooms perfect location, 5 mins from centre of Ambleside.
Excellent for walkers as has all the facilities of a hostel but no time restrictions.
Although no parking, free street parking available near by.

Thanks for a great review, sorry the drying room couldn't cope, must have been really stuffed with very wet stuff.
It usually dries all that's put in it, however soaked boots can be a pain to dry overnight

A group of us stayed at this hostel over the weekend and would really recommend it. The manager Chris could not have been more friendly and helpful (even when we were all a bit late leaving the kitchen/dining room in the morning!) and the cooking facilities are excellent: plenty of space and equipment for everybody. The sleeping accommodation is standard hostel fare - bunkbeds in dorms - but they are very clean and warm. The high-ceilinged living room with sofas and armchairs is a lovely place to hang out and meet other people in the hostel, making the overall environment very welcoming and enjoyable. The location is also great, just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. If we had to make any criticism, it would be that the drying room isn't really warm or ventilated enough - after a wet day on the fells we found that the room was very humid and our stuff was still damp the next morning. Otherwise a great stay. Thanks!

Just spent a long weekend at amblesidehostel.co.uk with some friends. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. The whole place was very clean (unlike some other hostels!). The separate common room, massive kitchen and dining room are very spacious. There is very easy access to Ambleside with lots of dining & drinking options and unbelievable top quality outdoor gear options! There is even a movie theatre close by in case the weather is really bad. Next time I want to spend more time looking around the town. We hiked up Scafell and it was amazingly beautiful. I was not expecting the richness of colour and texture up in the mountains and late in the year.

Definitely will be back and Highly Recommended for anyone looking to stay in the Lakes in a clean, welcoming, warm hostel with great access to a town and close to a nice glass of wine!

This hostel really does have it all. Great location, just a couple of minutes walk into town. Great security (key pad) very friendly and helpfull staff. Clean and tidy rooms, awesome showers, and amazingly well equipped kitchen and dining room. Just to top it off the hostel has a lovely common living room with lots of really comfy sofas (just what you need after a days walking or climbing) and even a piano and chandelier. Cant recommend this place highly enough.

We have stayed in the Backpackers on many occasions and it is still always our first choice when visiting the Lakes. It is very well located and only a short walk into Ambleside centre. You get unlimited tea and coffee and toast and cereal for breakfast included which makes it a great budget option. You also get free WiFi and a nice cosy lounge to sit in. Drying room is a good size too, which is useful for those all too frequent days in the Lakes where it rains!

It always gets busy Fri/Sat night so try to book early and if in a group of 5 or 6 to book into a private room. Parking can be a problem but you should be able to find a space a short walk away and can use the car park at the bottom of the road for free if you are out early and back late.

We had great time, breakfast basic but adequate. Rooms clean, and bedding clean. Only gripe is that the bunks squeaked every time you turned over or moved in the night, but with all the hiking in the day I was too tired to notice too much. Great for a couple or three nights but not much longer.

Our first stay at Ambleside Backpackers Hostel. We were a group of 4 ladies and booked a 4 bed room. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodation was basic which you would expect from a hostel but clean and with everything that we needed. The free Wi-Fi was a bonus, as was the free unlimited tea and coffee during our stay. The breakfast which was included in the price was quite adequate with a good choice of cerials and jams, marmalade and honey go on the toast. Very good value for money. Would stay there again if in the area.
