“Authentic ancient farmhouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

We spent 3 nights at Robinsons Farm and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is located in a beautiful valley. Our room was spacious and well appointed, bed very comfortable. Braekfast delicious and company enjoyable, we liked sharing our breakfast table with other travellers. Our Hostess was able to share the history of the house with us. Would recommend to all those who are looking for authenticity and value for money. Very pleasant walk to 2 excellent pubs.

Being a National Trust accommodation our expectations were high. However, this can be best described as authentic but dated. Room was clean & tidy and the bed was the most comfortable of our holiday. The host was very welcoming and provided an excellent breakfast. All thats needed is a bit of an update. Nearest pub is 1 mile away thus adding a couple of miles to your days total.

My son and I recently stayed here and found the place clean and comfortable and extremely reasonably priced. The breakfast was prompt and absolutely delicious. I felt sorry for the health nuts (from across the Atlantic) on our table who turned their noses up at the cooked breakfast as it was SO good and the only alternatives are cereal and toast.
There are no ensuite bathrooms, and only two loos (which when all four rooms are full is undeniably inconvenient) and there is no tv, radio, phone signal or internet in any of the rooms, but as the previous reviewer says these are not necessary in this location and the price more than makes up for it.
Just one warning, as is common in the lakes area, the drive along Langdale is narrow and windy from Chapel Stile (lots of waiting for oncoming traffic) and the track to the farm has a very steep and acute angled turn onto it and is very potholed. Don't let that put you off though!

This is another of the National Trust farms in the Lake District which has diversified into Bed and Breakfast.

The interior of the house is immaculate with the B&B side being run by farmers wife Vicky Edmundson who understands walkers needs. The house is very clean and well decorated, indeed of a higher standard than other NT farms where I have stayed in the District. The breakfast and welcome is very good, tea is available in the guest room when you arrive and there is adequate parking by the house for several cars. Ther is no TV but who needs or wants to watch that when you have had a day walking the fells?

The tariff is low on account of the lack of en-suite in the bedrooms, but don't let that put you off, there isn't a catch. There is a seperate toilet and a bathroom just off the landing. The supplement for a single person taking a double room is most reasonable as well.

Me and two friends stayed for two nights and found that the menu at the Old Dungeon Ghyll bar was more varied than it was as the New Dungeon Ghyll bar, the food was also better at the Old.

The location of the farm is perfect for climbing the Wainwrights in Great Langdale, as well as Crinkle Crags, Bow Fell, Esk Pike, Rossett Pike and many others. We will definately stay here again.
