“Best café in Ambleside bar none.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

After trying numerous cafés in Ambleside over the years (I've done it, so you don't have to - tough gig I know!), it is the Giggling Goose we go back to every time. Truly brilliant home baked cakes, scones, flapjacks and savouries. Had the lemon drizzle cake this weekend and it was beyond compare - sticky, tangy and crunchy sugary topping. Friendly staff and excellent garden for those sunny days.

“Fantastic cafe, amazing carrot cake!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

We popped in for a coffe and a cake after a mornings walk. The service was good, and there was a nice atmosphere. it was too cold to sit outside but the garden looked very inviting next to the river for the summer months. I had carrot cake, which was amazing, the best carrot cake I've ever had! I would definitley recommend.

Beautiful cafe and friendly staff but I had the Ham Hock Broth which should have been called Carrot Broth as there were 10 times more carrot than Ham

“Quirky, friendly, pretty... oh and wonderful food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

This café is like the girlfriend your parents always wanted for you - pretty, friendly, a little quirky, but thoroughly wholesome and with plenty of substance. The menu is fairly small but when you appreciate that everything is homemade on site its easy to see why. The setting by the brook is lovely, and our scones with cream and jam were huge! Very good value for the area too. If we're ever in ambleside again we'll come back here.

“Picturesque setting and great home made food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

Went here for a light lunch after a lovely crisp walk. Too cold to sit outside in the pretty garden unfortunately but the cafe is warm and cosy and very pretty and the food wholesome (two of us had the excellent quiche and salad, one the carrot and coriander soup and another a ham hock broth - all got top marks) and delicious - sadly we were too full to try the cakes which looked incredible!
