“We couldn't have picked a better hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We've returned home today after a 3 night stay at the Rothay Manor Hotel. We had booked for 2 nights, we spent these in room 14; we wanted to extend our stay by one night because we were enjoying ourselves so much, even though it hardly stopped raining. We spent the extra night in room 6. Both rooms were extremely comfortable, very well furnished and with powerful showers. This is very important to my husband and I because we have a power shower at home, and miss it when we're away on holiday. Room 14 was our favourite. It's on the ground floor, at the side of the hotel. It has a private terrace in a lovely little garden. Room 6 was on the first floor at the front of the hotel. This room had a balcony with table and chairs.

The food was out of this world. It would be too difficult to pick out a favourite meal. We see somebody has written that they thought the food was expensive; we have to disagree. We think it was excellent value for money. The Sunday we were there, the hotel was fully booked for lunch and for afternoon tea.

The staff were, without exception, very professional and helpful. They made sure everything was to our satisfaction without fawning over us.

We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Premium room 14 was fantastic!!

Myself and my husband were very fortunate in taking afternoon tea at the Hotel. There was a lovely selection of freshly made sandwiches and savoury treats to start with and then a good assortment of lovely old fashioned home made cakes. The tea (many blends to choose from) was served and we were asked if we would like a fresh pot without any prompting from us. in fact we were encouraged to keep filling up our plates as many times as we liked. The staff were courteous and polite and nothing was too much trouble. If you are in the area treat yourself you won't be disappointed, in fact you will be pleasantly surprised.

Prior to booking i took time out to read previous reviews for the Rothay Manor Hotel and what a pleasant surprise to find the hotel did not disappoint from the reviews. We only stayed for two nights 24th & 25th June due to other commitments but we will visit again and our stay will be much longer. First impressions are very important when you arrived and again we were not disappointed, in fact i could get carried away going on about how good we found this hotel, i know guests sometimes have problems whilst staying at hotels but i think that if anybody had any at the Rothay it would be attended to immediately the staff are so approachable, its that personal touch that other hotels lack that helps to make this one of the best.

My Hubby and i went to Rothay Manor for afternoon tea on monday 25th June 12 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Rothay Manor was highly recommended to us we were greeting warmly and after an introduction to the proceedure of where things were ect..by a very polite and friendly waiter. We found a comfy seat and after an hour of relaxing and enjoying the lovely surroundings whilst enjoying the delious afternoon tea we departed. A very enjoyable afternoon and well worth a visit no matter what age.Thank you.!!

Last visit February, back again in June. Not a lot has changed, and that is what the majority of guests appreciate it seems.
The individual attention given to all from booking to leaving is very good indeed.
We were in a room at the back overlooking the small rock face, with foxgloves and rhodedendrons providing colour. The view beyond would also have been attractive, but we chose the wettest weekend possible so it was cloud covered!
Only one young couple in evidence, possibly too quiet - no 'muzak' - again something appreciated by the guests who prefer conversation. However if anyone younger can cope with that then the rooms, the food, the situation etc will not disappoint.
An easy walk into Ambleside.

Room Tip: There seems to be a room for all needs, including ground floor access.

This was my second stay at this hotel and a large part of the decision to return was to enjoy once again the exquisite cuisine we remembered!! It didn't disappoint! .. We were a family of four, so we chose the beautiful Loughrigg suite which was large and comfortable, lacked nothing and had a beautiful view of the fells. We were blessed with glorious weather and the garden looked magnificent. This is a quite small old building of character, so don't expect things modern. It is extremely well maintained and furnished and spotlessly clean throughout. Service is efficient, friendly and professional. I'm quite well travelled, and IMO. the food is equal to anywhere in the world ..

Room Tip: The suites are great for a family ..

We stayed here for four nights from Monday 28th May to Friday the 1st June 2012. Where do I start? Everything was excellent, comfy bed, comfy pillows, bath and separate shower, unlimited fresh milk for tea making in the room. Great breakfast with everything you could wish for to suit all tastes including a vegetarian cooked breakfast if that is your thing. The evening restaurant was superb, the menu changed each evening with a few things repeated but the food was excellent and the service also excellent. This hotel is also in a great location, close enough to walk to the waterfront in the evening and also into the small town.
I am very hard to please and nearly always have something to complain about but couldn't find anything to complain about at the Rothay Manor Hotel. Will recommend to everyone I know who visits the lakes and hope to return sometime.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back without a balcony but there are rooms overlooking the garden at the front...
