“Lovely location and interesting veggie food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

I always try to get a table in the Rattle Gill when in Ambleside. It's got some of the best homemade food and cake around. The soup, cake and coffee never has disappointed yet.
Sadly its small and often very busy so its all down to timing!
Owners are friendly and take care of their customers. As much as I don;t want to recommend the place so I can stop even more people flocking there - I can't fault it!! Hopefully it will be open in Winter this year!!

“Great coffee and cake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

Called into this tiny quirky cafe for coffee and cake. Great quality coffee and amazing huge cakes. We opted for a slice of superb coffee and walnut cake.Staff really friendly.

“A Little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

Hadn't read any of the reviews and found this cafe by accident. We both had a huge portion of quiche (home made & deep) and a mix of tasty salads, plus a cold drinks and then cafetiere coffees. The rest of the food we saw being served looked just as good and lots of people complimented the two guys on it. Gets very busy at lunchtime so get there early! They also do good cakes, so a good place for afternoon coffee & cake as well as lunch. They offer a "taster" pack of 5 smaller portions of cakes either to eat in or take away in a bag for later (we saw a group doing that). The only downside is the size of the cafe - it's small - but maybe that's what keeps it so special. Will definitely be returning.

““Memorable vegetarian lunch, children welcome””
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

We are regular visitors to Ambleside but had never visited The Rattle Gill cafe before! I'm slightly ashamed to admit that we came here because the Giggling Goose was closed, but I'm glad we did. It's small, homely, welcoming and serves filling, delicious vegetarian fare. I had a baked potato with chilli if memory serves me correctly, my wife had a 'hunk' of quiche, if that's not an oxymoron and my boy, who is a connoisseur of ham sandwiches, had to make do with a lovely cheese sandwich with doorsteps of artisan loaf.

The guys running the place do all the food preparation and are really nice. They made our two children (4 and 1 y.o.) feel very welcome. Definitely a place to return to in future.
