“Pleasant, quiet & convenient”

The Waterhead Hotel

My husband and I (middle-aged but young at heart) stayed at the Waterhead Hotel, Ambleside for two nights, mid-week in late May.

Our room was in a quiet location, as we had requested, as the purpose of our visit was for a couple of days' complete relaxation. The room was spacious, the furnishings easy on the eye and the bed is one of the most comfortable I have experienced. The bathroom was also a good size and no shortage of shampoo, soap, etc.. There was a very good selection of refreshments in the room and a nice touch was the chocolate left on the bed when the staff turned down the bedding for the night. The hotel was clean and well decorated throughout.

The little personal touches even extended to "story-telling" in customer toilets in the main hotel - a new experience!

We found that all of the staff, without exception, were polite and friendly. The food in the hotel's Bay Restaurant was good and not overpriced.

Overall, this hotel hit the mark. The location opposite Waterhead Bay at the northern end of Lake Windermere was very pleasant and convenient. Ambleside Pier is almost opposite the hotel and boats to all parts of the lake can be accessed from there. A visitor information centre is also located near the pier. The road between the lake and the hotel can be a bit busy, but, there is a pedestrian crossing outside the hotel so it is not a major inconvenience.

We had a lovely, relaxing short break which we would be happy to repeat.

Stayed from Friday to Sunday and can only say that it was a superb hotel. We stayed in a lake view room and thought the extra expense was worth while. The room was lovely and had nice touches such as cappachino coffee, hot chocolate and numerous teas. Also inlcuded local gingerbread every day which my husband loved. Toiletries were included and again were top end. The bar area was lovely, very friendly staff and a nice outlook over the lake. We dined for one night in the restaurant and found this excellent. The food was superb. I would say that if you are looking for an inexpensive weekend in the lakes you will need to go elsewhere, but if you wish to have a little more luxury then this is the place for you. We enjoyed our stay so much we immediately booked again on our return home.

I booked a surpise birthday treat in April for my girlfriend and had a great stay. We stayed in the luxury suite and the view was amazing. I booked through the hotels website and got a very reasonalbe deal, £286 for 2 nights B & B in the best room in the hotel.

Comfy beds, large beathroom and DVD player in the room made for a very comfortable and enjoyable visit. Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent.

Highly reccommend for a stay in the lakes and will definatley visit again.

“A New Years experience”

The Waterhead Hotel

May 15, 2008

All the reviews are correct - a wonderful hotel - I think value for money, there is so much mediocre accommodation out there!
I have little to add to all the other reviews except to say it a wonderful place to go for new year -wish I was able to stay longer.
I have no criticisms at all [ a minor minor one would be to hang draw and quarter the totally useless DJ who disturbed what would otherwise have been a perfect evening ]

My husband and I recently went up to Lake Windermere and stayed at the Waterhead.

Both the area and the Hotel are fantastic. We can highly recommend the hotel restaurant (I think it is called the Bay), the food in there is to die for, and is reasonably priced (approx £60 total for 3 courses and wine).

The bedrooms are great, nicely decorated and have the most comfortable bed I have slept in for a long time.

The area is very quiet, but this suited us. There is literally a few hotels, one pub, a cafe and 2 shops. We were only there for the weekend.

We had lunch in the pub (The Wateredge, i think) which was good (we had the seafood platter) but over priced I think, and having eatten at the Bay restaurant, I would have preferred to have more of their food.

The hotel has a limited selection of free DVDs that can be borrowed, also you can use the spa at the sister hotel, the Low Wood, although we did not try this.
