“Consistent and Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in November, this being our 2nd visit.
We feel comfortable in the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, quite clean and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
if you are on the bed and breakfast package the Waterhead Grill for breakfast is an excellent breakfast and really sets you up for the day.
Dinner for the 2 of us was also included on our first night and made it a remarkably good deal - essentially the room was close to free for the first night! They don't restrict your choices on the dinner menu on this package which was refreshing and appreciated.
After our first visit, we realized that the hotel is dog friendly (for £10 per night) and our room came with a doggie bed, water bowl and even some biscuits for our pooch. A nice touch.
We plan to return next year.
The hotel is also an easy walk into Ambleside and right next door to Hayes Garden World which is a wonderful garden centre.

Me and my boyfriend went away for a weekend break this hotel exceeded our expectations. Every night they put ice in the wine cooler which was great because my boyfriend had bought me champagne for our weekend away. There where luxury shampoo, soap and hand cream in the bathroom too. It rained for most of our stay so the DVDs you can borrow in reception were great. I'd also recommend in rainy weather to go and vist the pictures in Ambleside it's walking distance it was really lovely compared to any other cinema I have visited.it was also really cheap it was only £12 for two tickets and two medium drinks.
We got the train up to the Lake District so we had to get the bus to Ambleside which was £10 each for a day ticket which was expensive especially when the buses stop at six even on a Saturday. Although the journey up there was stress free on the train.
We went away for my birthday so when we got there there was a card and balloons off the hotel for my birthday. The hotel staff were so friendly and treated like royalty it was amazing!!!! The breakfast every morning was so lovely it was better than anything I've ever had I didn't want to come home. This hotel is fault less its utterly amazing and I would highly recommend it. I could only afford to stay here through buying a deal on KGB but if I could afford it I would defiantly stay here again. We stayed in the basic room which was lovely it had a super king bed which was really comfy and the bathroom was really modern and clean. The views from this hotel are breathtaking. This is an ideal place to stay for a romantic weekend to be waited on hand and foot

Overall Impression: I booked this hotel as a relaxing birthday treat for my husband. From the moment we arrived we realised how much care and attention the staff pay to the details. Very welcoming reception area with a lovely atmosphere. We arrived about two hours before we were due to check in but our room was ready for us.

Room: We stayed in room 34 which I believe is a standard room, but far superior to a lot of the luxury rooms we have stayed in during other hotel stays. The room was spotlessly clean, with an ice bucket next to the glasses - noce touch. The tea and coffee facilities were excellent! We had the pleasure of trying the complimentary Grasmere Ginderbread. It was so good, we detoured to Grasmere on the way home to buy some! The bathroom, with it's underfloor heating was also spotlessly clean with plenty of fluffy towels and luxuriant toiletries.

The bed was a super king and the most comfortable bed I think I have ever slept in! Everything is here for you - hairdryer, iron and board, trouser press - fantastic!

Restaurant: We ate our evening meal at the Wateredge over the road, but the breakfast next morning was exceptional. Freshly cooked option - the American Breakfast - is highly recommended. The buffet style fresh fruit, cereal and pattisserie section was varied and fresh.

Lasting Impression: Friendly staff, complimentary access to the Low Wood Bay Leisure Centre, great experience all round which I would love to repeat soon!

Room Tip: Recommend the Lake View rooms - they are stunning.

My husband & I stayed at The Waterhead for onr night at the beginning of December. We just had a "standard" room, but it was still fantastic - underfloor heating in the bathroom, great selection of teas & coffee, a huge comfy bed with high quality bedding.
The breakfast was fantastic - cooked to order from a menu. No cold congealed bacon sitting on a "hot" plate here. Also a good selection of cereals, fruit & pastries from a buffet. A decent size pot of tea & coffee too.
The hotel is a 10 minute into Ambleside & there's a bus stop right outside the front of the hotel if you don't fancy the walk.

Beautiful views of the lake, great service and the hotel restaurant is a must. We stayed here for 2 nights and had access to the spa about half a mile away. It had an outdoor hot tub with the views of the lake. To say it was a stunning experience would not do it justice. Thoroughly recommended. We are going back to stay for sure.

Spent two nights at the Waterhead, for a Christmas Party night. The friendliness of the staff from reception to restaurant to housekeeping was exemplary. The party night food was of the highest order and the breakfast was marvelous. It was, though, the extras that sets the Waterhead apart, restaurant manager Stephen was very helpful and obliging to all of our requests. We were staying in Room 17 and all the the touches around wine chillers/ ice/ turning the bed down and the chocs and the gift from the Hotel, just simply sets this hotel apart.

Room Tip: Room 17 is amazing

We visited the Lakes early November with my two granddaughters aged 6yrs and 13yrs. We only stayed one night but what a fantastic experience. We arrived early but that was no problem for the staff, we got our rooms immediately. Ours was a room overlooking the lake and the girls had a smaller room at the back of the hotel...
