“RydalHall - Amazing campsite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

We arrived without having booked, and our host succeded in providing us a very nice place with a great smile despite the campsite was full.
Our host was a really nice, nice person (amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!) and we thank her very much for welcoming us. she incated us what to do to discover the area and what wonderfull to visit.
La camping était vraiment super et les sanitaires étaient très propres et chauds, malgré la température extérieure.
Le cadre est magnifique avec moutons et sa cascade. So a wonderfull place !!!

This was my second visit to the Yurts, my previous visit was in Nov 2012 with friends.
The yurts are a magical place I don't have anything negative to stay about the trip.

I used the toilet block this time; it was always clean and warm and its a good spot to do the washing up. Only bumped into one of the other yurt guests the whole weekend, It was quiet and peaceful.

We spent a lot of time just relaxing in the yurt. It was pretty cold out but the yurt was sooooo hot. We baked bread in the oven of the log burner. We spent a lot of time playing backgammon and cards. The yurts have a book shelf with random books and games and jigsaws. We cooked in the yurts for breakfast and tea each day.

The site is great, each yurt has 2 crates of wood round the back and is stacked with kindling underneath. The yurts are spread out and there are some lovely old trees around.

We walked to rydal cave, round rydal water and grasmere which was lovely (alltho the walk round grasmere involves the road a lot)

Take a gas lantern for a nicer light than the white light that the solar power lights give off.

On the sunday it was windy and snowing and very cold outside but in the yurt we were still so warm the log burner is great and it never stopped from friday eve till we left on sunday eve.

I can't even think of any suggestions. Ben really has covered everything. In some ways it would be nice to visit in the summer but i think during the cold winter days you really can make the most of the log burner and relaxing without the stress of the outside world.

If your thinking of going, definitely do it. You will have an awesome time.

An amazing weekend in a Yurt. Freezing outside but super toasty inside with the fantastic woodburner on. A more than ample supply of wood to burn kept it lovely and warm (nearly too warm!!). Luxuriously furnished and in a stunning position with great views. Thoroughly recommended.

As a group of 6 young teenagers on our first holiday this was a good place to visit. We wanted to save our big holiday abroad for another year and so decided to stay in England and thought this was the perfect place.

We stayed in Yurt 2 - which was right at the top of the hill! Although we got a great view from up here, the walk up and down the hill was a bit of a pain especially to go to the toilets/showers which were right at the bottom of the hill - a good 100 to 200m away.

Also, we had bought food under the impression that we would have some fridge space to use but, when we arrived, a group of campers had used all the space so we were forced to make do with what we could.

However, these are really the only bad things I can say! We were greeted by Ben - I think I can't really remember! - who was really friendly, accommodating and helped us haul our bags up to the Yurt - I don't recommend taking suitcases, although it might seem obvious to you it didn't to us! He then answered any questions we had, made sure we knew where everything was and filled us in on some local knowledge for our stay. One of the things I greatly recommend is going for a walk in the nearby wooded hill area, although pretty steep, if you follow the stream up then there are some really great places to go for a swim - a great natural swimming pool! After we went to the tea rooms, although a little pricey the food and drink was really good.

We decided to get adventurous and ended up going on some walks around the area, although we are your average teens even we could appreciate how lovely the scenery was. Although you can walk into Windermere, which we started to do and thought it was a fairly nice walk, one of my friends had hurt her ankle and so we decided to get a taxi which seemed reasonably priced. In Windermere the Chips from the Fish + Chip shops were really nice, a must try! As far as shops went there were a few touristy ones selling sweets, chocolates etc but they were all much the same, a few places to buy some walking gear and some supermarkets which had all the necessities.

And on to the teen point of view... there were a few pubs in the area but no nightlife to speak of. Instead taking your own booze and having a mini Yurt party would be our recommendation, we kept the music to a reasonable volume and received no complaints. We took monopoly in case we ended up getting really bored on a rainy day and there was a chess board there, together with booze these led to some fairly interesting games.

The best bit for us had to be the outside BBQ style cooker, we enjoyed the challenge of trying to cook EVERYTHING on there, in terms of using that our best friend became tin foil, if you used the actual tins provided and/or wrapped the food in foil then everything turned out pretty well.

Overall we had a great time, much better than we expected as we all usually enjoy a good party etc but it was nice to do something different. It isn't ideal for teens who are like this unless you're happy to calm it down a fair bit and be respectful and it's definitely not ideal if you like everything to be on your doorstep.

Thank you from us!

What can I say? The yurt and location is just fabulous. Just back from a Christmas break
The yurt is very spacious and well set up everything thought about. I thought having a bed and chairs would spoil the Mongolian feel but it was very well done. We could have stayed much longer getting into the yurt way of life and slowing down. The extras of bubbly, fruit basket, biscuits and crackers were a lovey touch. Cooked croissants and stew in the oven, worked a treat. Very cozy and a welcome home to come back to after a long walk.
The location is just perfect. Excellent for walks all around, 25 mins to Ambleside and a cafe and pub within 5 mins walk.
Toilet block was lovely, new, warm (underfloor heating so no curled toes) and very clean, we even topped up the mobile.
Thank you Ben for an excellent set up can not recommend more.

Lovely spot to enjoy the lakes at their best. About as relaxed as I've felt in a long time! Surprisingly warm at night too. Well connected to the rest of the lakes. Very nice setting amongst the trees, all kind of friendly wildlife were spotted. Would love to go back some time soon!
