“Great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We have just spent 3 days (2 nights) at Barnes Fell and have had a great time. The view from our room was fantastic as it looked over Ambleside and the surrounding hills. I have read other reviews which have stated that the view was "limited" but I'm not sure what they were expecting to see from a window in the Lake District? The landlady Ethna is a lovely lady who went out of her way to help. The breakfast is gorgeous. The property is very nicely furnished and was very clean. I would definately stay there again.

Room Tip: Book early!!!!

Will definitely stay again! We found the location, comfort and hospitality perfect. The room (Loughrigg) was clean and spacious with epic views. Breakfast was lovely with a number of options. All in all great place to stay whilst exploring Ambleside and the Lakes…

We have just returned from a weekend away to celebrate my 50th birthday. This was our third time staying in Ambleside and we decided to look for something a bit different. Well we certainly found this here. From the moment Ethna opened the door I knew we had made the right choice. It felt so welcoming when we walked in. We were shown to our room "Loughrigg" which was absolutely lovely. The room itself is quite large with a gorgeous four poster bed which is very comfy and a lovely bathroom with bath & shower. The views out of the window are amazing and you can understand why the room is named as such. It is very close to the centre of Ambleside just a few minutes walk and you're in the centre of the town with plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafes etc.(If dining out check out "Atelier" and be sure to book, it is simply amazing). Back to Barnes Fell, the breakfasts are excellent, with plenty of choice and certainly set you up for the day. I couldn't fault anything here at Barnes Fell, the service was superb. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer, but we will certainly be back. We would not stay anywhere else in Ambleside now we have found Barnes Fell. The lovely hug from Ethna when we were leaving felt like I was in fact leaving a close friend. Many thanks Denise & Ste X

Just returned from a two night break at this lovely b & b. We had stayed 12 months ago in Ambleside at another b& b which was ok, but enjoyed our stay at the Barnes Fell 100%. Yummy breakfast, very feminine bedroom (Loughrigg), fantastic views with everything you need. Thanks Ethna for a warm welcome, your great sense of humour and friendly persona. Sorry to say, we WILL be back. :-) .

We stayed just before Christmas and had a wonderful stay.
The room was clean, spacious and peaceful.
We liked that it was close to town but away from the traffic and noise.
The service was impeccable, attentive and friendly - it almost felt like staying with friends.
The room was lovely and the breakfast spot on.
We would happily stay again.

A little gem in Ambleside, this B&B is a lovely clean and homely feeling place to spend a couple of nights. We were made to feel very welcome during our stay, Ethna and Nick are great hosts. We were surprised at how close to the centre of Ambleside it is located, being just a few minutes walk (albeit up a rather steep hill!) from the centre of the town. Good choice of breakfasts on offer, the full english is as good as any you are likely to find. Will happily stay again next time we're in the area.

Well, this is our second time at Barnes Fell, and once again a lovely stay ! Ethna & Nick who own and run the place, are lovely ! The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean, with a good size bathroom, TV and tea coffee and hot chocolate to hand. Fresh towels every day left at the bottom of your bed, also the rooms are always toastie ! The thing that topped my couple of days off was that Ethna's daughter has opened a resultant called Atelier, two minutes away from the B&B. We normally eat at Dodds in Ambleside or The villa in Windermere , but we decided to give it a try ! Great decision, the food was first class, so we went back the second night. Anyway can't wait to go back and visit The Barnes Fell. Thanks again Ethna & Nick.
