“A nice waterfall with some great surrounding views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We visited Aira Force when on holiday in the Lake District in mid May 2013. We drove from Ambleside through to Windermere and then on to Aira Force.

Like a lot of the roads around the Lake District there are some tight spots on this road. If you have an older car with various scratches on it already you won't mind. If you have a new car it might be a little more stressful, at points. Some of the other car drivers seem to want to take up part of your side of the road to avoid damaging your car. Unfortunately there are a lot of dry stone dykes and untrimmed bushes right at the side of the road. However, that is a Lake District thing not specific to the trip to Aira Force.

The drive has a good number of points where you will want to decant the car and take a look, or a photo.

There is a car park beside Aira Force but it is not Free. Remember to take long a number of £ coins (at least 4). We went when the small team room was closed and had to pop sway to get some more change as we did not have enough.

Once you are parked there is a nice walk to both the bottom and the top of the falls. some of this is reasonably steep and there are quite a few steps so those with mobility issues may want to think carefully about this one.

The walk is nice and the view of the falls from the bottom and top is picture worthy. They are not the biggest falls but they are worth a visit.

After having a good walk around the area of the falls don't forget when going back to the car park to take a walk across the road and down the track, into the field and down to the lake side. More good views and photo opportunities to be had there, on a good day.

There is a car park/layby located above the falls. It did not appear to be one that had a ticket machine so possibly another option if you find you don't have any change on you.

Overall I thought the falls were worth a visit, but not spectacular. There are a number of good photo opportunities on the journey to the falls, around the falls and the falls themselves.

Would I go again, yes probably.

“Aira force Waterfall at Ullswater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

Visited here June 1st 2013, we found this area amazing. The natural beauty of the water falls is amazing, we parked above the falls on the road down to the lake and walked through the fields. It took us to a rocky path which lead to the main fall under the bridge but the way down was fantastic. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.....

“Great waterfall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

This is a great place to go. The waterfall is absolutely beautiful and easy to get to (not like others where you need to walk for miles). We went even with young kids. It can be a bit of a challenge but if you keep an eye on them and hold hands you will have no problems. There were some areas or paths closed due to trees falling but you have several ways of getting to the fall.

“Excellent - and the sun was shining!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I hadn't heard of Aira Force before but found it in a walking book of the Lake District. Parked in a little car park at the top so no charges and then had beautiful scenery en-route to the falls. I really enjoyed seeing all 3 even though they weren't huge and I rewarded myself with an ice-cream at the café in the National Trust car park at the bottom before walking on to Ullswater. A walk to be taken in all seasons.

“A lovely walk and pretty waterfall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

This national trust waterfall is free to cost for members and you just pay to park otherwise. The walk to the waterfall is often wet and slippery but quite easy to manage for all. The waterfall is very pretty, especially on a sunny day after a good amount of rain fall. I have visited many times before and I'm sure I will visit again. It's a lovely woodland walk by a stream aside from the spectacular waterfall.
