“Very nice holiday but suspicions about this park ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

I think trip advisor should seriously consider some of the reviews for this holiday park - not just the specific lodge we stayed in. Don't get me wrong, the place is perfectly fine but I think it probably outscores the Taj Mahal, Paris and the pyramids for 5 star ratings, which is definitely not deserved.

This is a decent park - it has a decent restaurant, a small sandy beach by the nice lake (full of 'no swimming' sings that every single parent ignored), and a pool/ gym. Our lodge was fine - basically a caravan without the wheels and decidedly dated décor in some parts. It was clean though - apart from some of the windows, on top of wardrobes and the many spiders' webs outside. Some bulbs were missing with no replacements. It was pretty well equipped though and had a lovely balcony which was a great setting for evening meals. The owner was very friendly and met us personally for an earlier check in.

On the downside, there was little else to do on site - given the number of children there I really don't understand why they don't invest in even a small play park. There is also a bit of noise from the very close motorway - this didn't put me off personally but it may do those who are seeking perfect tranquillity.

The food was good from the on-site restaurant and they even offered takeaways which are great for families with young children. They should more regularly clean the outside area, however, although to be fair the clientele should stop leaving glasses near the children's beach! Also, there really should have been better information about the surrounding area left at reception and in the lodge itself.

Handy for lakes and Blackpool/ Lancaster (a real find) but a week should do it I think.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We stayed at the Avocet Lodge for 4 days in October and had a relaxing and really enjoyable stay.

With two children under 2, my husband and I chose this lodge with some advice from Maureen at Lakeside Lodges and were not disappointed.

The kitchen is in lovely condition, with a particularly good dishwasher (always useful!) and the new reclining leather sofas were a superb addition for relaxing evenings after the kids were asleep.
Also having an en suite bathroom on the master bedroom was, again, very useful.

This lodge is one away from the lakeside but you still have a good view and the ducks visits each day delighted our young children.

The site has a lovely pool and a nice bar and restaurant but other than that you need to leave the site for activities. There is a great farm village very close by called Greenlands which is a must to visit for anyone with a young family. We loved it. And Kirby Lonsdale and Kendal are short drives away so there's lots close by to keep you occupied.

A great little place which we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to others.

“fantastic, spotless clean accommodation.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

We had a great relaxing weekend in this accommodation. My husband was scuba diving at capernwray so I needed somewhere to keep the kids occupied. The swimming pool was great and never too busy, the little beach was great with rocks to jump off and the outside tables for the bar were close enough to be able to keep an eye on the kids whilst having a drink. initially i felt it would be good if there was a play park but the kids make their own fun rolling down the hill at the back of the lodge and feeding the ducks. we also made use of the board games when the rain came on. the lodge had everything we needed, with comfortable beds and the new reclining sofa were brilliant. we will definitely be back.

“Stunning location with a gorgeous lodge and excellent facilities. It is like a home from home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Six of us stayed at the Avocet lodge over the weekend of Fri 11th of May 2012 till Mon 14th of May. The lodge has excellent facilities which include a well stocked kitchen including a dishwasher. I would recommend bringing a dish cloth or sponges to wash up by hand, this was the only thing missing. The lounge area has a large screen tv, which is excellent with two twin sofas and an armchair, see the pictures on the website. The double bedroom has a comfortable bed with an excellent bathroom en suite. The shower is especially pleasing after a hard days Scuba diving at Capernwray Quarry, which is just a short drive away. The bar and restaraunt facilities are great, we had a meal which fed Two for about £ 14 the quality was excellent and you did not feel ripped off ,drink prices were also good value. We also made use of the leisure centre for gym and swim. With a couples ticket costing £8.50 for the day. This is a genuine review as i have read in the computer magazines about reviews being compiled by professional writers or people seeking to cause harm by writing a negative review. I will be planning to stop here again in a couple of weeks. I highly recommend giving this site a go, you will not be dissapointed. People with pets, should book a pet freindly lodge which are available. Avocet lodge is a fantastic stay and helped to make the Scuba diving weekend as stress free as possible. “Fantastic break made all the better by the suberb accomodation.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

We booked a 4 night stay for 11 people spread out over 2 cabins. We were thrilled when we entered the cabin to see how immaculately clean it was and unbelievably spacious!! We settled in extremely quickly!! The surrounding areas were lovely and ever so peaceful, despite having 4 young children with us they were highly entertained playing on the football pitch, swimming in the pool and also plenty of duck feeding!! This is certainly a place we will be returning to in the very near future and would like to say a massive thank you to maureen for all her assistance.
