“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Stayed in the travelodge and picked to eat here Saturday night based on trip advisor reviews and looking at the restaurant's own website. The setting was great and the food was excellent and I am so pleased we went. We were eating different things so ordered wine by the glass and all of them were great. My main was the braised beef which was absolutely delicious. I asked for some more sauce which was no problem and the waitress came back with some. Not a huge menu but everything we had was cooked beautifully. If I lived locally then I would definitely go back. Well worth a visit!

“Very good experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

This is a real typical british pub, nice warm and friendly athmosphere. The staff is nice and help you select the beer that you want. The service is fast enough and the quality of food is very good. We had a selection of starters with sauces, butter bread, cheese, fish, it was abundant and well cooked, The main dishes were ok I had the 10oz. steak with fries and was delicious. Also the desert was rich.
I surely recomend this place both for eating and drinking.

“What a change!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Last weekend myself, 5 adult friends and 5 children booked a table for a get together. The staff could not have been more helpful considering we had 5 kids under 10 and 2 were in prams (-6 months old) Really good food and were really looked after. Well done new management and staff!

“A good option in Tunbridge Wells”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

We went on a Saturday evening and they were fully booked and the place had a happy buzz about it which helped customers relax. We were seated in the informal section but away from the bar itself. There is another room it seems that a large party went through to.
The food choices /options are not vast but certainly enough to choose from and all the meals are freshly cooked and of excellent quality and attractively presented. Think upmarket/gourmet pub food and no burgers/pizzas here.
We were a party of 3 and had a good bottle of wine(good varied menu and prices) 2 meals of 2 courses and 1 meal of 3 courses all for £92. All of us were full and no complaints at all.
Parking is a little tricky when they are full so be prepared to park on the main road or drop your party off first if the weather is bad.
We drove past at 3.30 on a Sunday afternoon and the car park was full of cars so this is obviously a popular meal too.
The restaurants in this town can be inconsistent so the consistently good reviews on this website encouraged us to try this one out and we were not disappointed and will go back.

“Expected more...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We went along expecting to be in the more formal restaurant - this apparently only opens at weekends. So we were in the more informal restaurant which was very comfortable and pleasant. The staff were friendly, the food was ok. We both had king prawns to start - a finger bowl eventually appeared well after we'd peeled them - it was ok but think the chef was trying a bit hard - same with the main of cod. The lemon pudding was long on lemon sauce, far too much, short on mascarpone but by far the best bit of the meal. Would have liked a coffee but as no one reappeared to ask didn't bother!! All in all ok but wouldn't be rushing back. The prices render it somewhere you wouldn't just pop out for a quick bite and the experience, for me, rendered it somewhere I wouldn't choose for a special occasion. But that said it wasn't unpleasant - just came away feeling a bit flat.

Thank you for your recent review on trip advisor.
I really appreciate our customers taking the time to give feedback in all forms so we can continue to ensure our food and service is the best it can be at all times.
Can I please ask you to email: hello@themountedgcumbe so we can deal with your comments directly.

The Mount Edgcumbe is designed to give an informal relaxed atmosphere in friendly, warm surroundings with high quality local food and service. The downstairs restaurant incorporates the bar leading to a sometimes lively feel, our first floor restaurant has a quieter more intermate feel but with the same relaxed atmosphere. If our customers prefer an area, we will try our upmost to accomodate.

I do hope this visit has not hindered your return. I would like to discuss things in more detail with you and look forward to recieving your email.

Thank you again for taking the time to review our restaurant.
