“Ramsgate Harbour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

We stayed at the oak Hotel overlooking the harbour which was very nice. If you make a visit to St Georges Church there is a stained glass window which depicts the small ships going to evacuate the troops from Dunkirk. This harbour was central to this operation. The church tower was designed to be an aid to shipping.

“Ramsgate looks a little tired to visitors of today but in the past it must have been wonderful!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The whole area around the harbour and beach needs a massive facelift! The old buildings need investment to bring them back to how they once were. Broadstairs has a much better atmosphere so pull up your socks Ramsgate and smarten the place up!

“So lovely we pay extra to watch from the window!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Ramsgate is unique unlike what some other reviews may say its not at all like all the other harbours! The weather in Ramsgate is akin to Calais so why pay for the ferry? Ramsgate hosts the last steam tug which is occasionally open to the public on special days - tours are provided by volunteers and enthusiasts. The harbour is adjacent to Ramsgate's main sandy beach so tourists can enjoy both. The RNLI, fishing boats and private yachts all use the harbour so there is a good variety of boats to look at. At christmas time some of the boats decorate themselves to match the local lights, and it plays host to most of Ramsgate's events which includes walks and talks as well as the annual parade that ends with a boat burning on the beach. There is a plethora of restaurants and cafe's on the harbour and around the sea front. Ramsgate's Harbour has played host to film crews and actors recently making is a star or the big screen. On a good day you can see to france on a not so nice day you can see sandwich and deal. Up from the harbour is a memorial garden perfect for picnicking and viewing the harbour which also has a rock waterfall all year round. We honestly don't know of a more idyllic place to live!
