“Ignore the tired front.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Much nicer inside that the tired front. Good food and a reasonable selection of beers though the Belgians would have something to say about the correct glass and serving in the bottle. Staff pleasant and helpful though none knew anything about Belgian Beer. Worth a visit if you're near by.

“A unique little corner of the world”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

This is one of our favourite places to visit when in Ramsgate. Understated (to say the least) and looking as though it could benefit from a good old clean. However i like this place. Big portions of food and every type of belgian beer you could wish for. They bake bread on site and there's always something going on.

“Disappointing food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

Just got back from a visit to the Belgium Bar, having spent many a time here some years ago enjoying the food and knowing we could bring the dog too, we were thoroughly disappointed this time, we ordered food which came with chips, which looked like the scrapings from the bin ( just crispy bits of potatoes )the food was small in portion which we wernt used to on other visits, my Husband ordered a main meal of calamari which was very measly and cold. we left feeling very disappointed as thoughly enjoyed the food in the past. Also we ordered drinks first and they arrived half way between eating our food. Such a let down , please Belgium Bar sort out your chefs , until then we won't be returning :(

“Great Whitstable Oysters but..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

As somewhat infrequent visitors to Ramsgate my companion and myself were not overly knowledgeable about local eating establishments; when we found ourselves looking to take lunch at 12.30 p.m. on a Thursday in mid August.

We had passed a number of restaurants along the Harbour Parade when I noticed that Whitstable Oysters were on the menu at the Belgian Cafe. Upon entering we were welcomed by a talkative young staff member and offered a table of our choice. After settling in our drinks quickly arrived whilst we proceeded to peruse the menu and the specials shown on the Blackboard. Orders taken, the starters and main courses were also served without any delay. The meal consisted of fried whitebait, oysters, a half kilo pot of mussels, french fries and all accompanied by two large glasses of the Pinot Grigio house wine.

Overall opinion of our dining experience was enjoyable enough, especially the large and succulent Whitstable Rock Oysters. Staff were friendly and observant and the food (except for the fries which were a little dry and overcooked) generally good.

We would have given a higher rating but for our surroundings. The restaurant itself was very dark and the overhead fans appeared to have little or no effect on cooling the interior. Almost all of the dark furniture seemed to be a complete mismatch of different styles of dining chairs and tables etc. We felt that this did not meet the same standards elsewhere in the restaurant such as the food and drink. In our opinion a sympathetic refurbishment would do much to enhance the appeal of the Belgian Cafe.
