While the B&B is well located and we enjoyed having our own back door to leave and enter our room and having breakfast served in the room (a welcome break after numerous mornings eating breakfast in breakfast rooms), we found the room to be stuffy and very old-fashioned. A redecoration and removal of a few layers of wallpaper, carpet and bed fittings would do a world of good.

Three of us stayed for one night before travelling to France. Two adults and 11 year old. The whole experience was very nice, we reluctantly left the next morning relaxed and refreshed. Thanks very nice Bev Michael and Tom

The room (for 3 adults) is on the basement where you can walk out via a small garden without going through the main door. Although it is not a large room, it is big enough to accommodate 3 single beds with a table for us to have breakfast inside the room. We get full English breakfast. All in all, good value for money.
Don't forget to visit the Dover Castle and the Guesthouse keeper (Margaret) will show you how to get there on foot (less than 15 minutes walk from the guesthouse). Don't miss the secret war tunnel in the castle.

we have stayed here on many occaisions now. It is a perfect locaton for a stopover before and after a journey over to france and also for exploring dover its self.
margaret, john and adaleid are so wellcoming and very helpfull, john even took us to a garage to get our car fixed after we had an unfortunate accident on one occaision. I would glady recomend this place to stay to anyone.***** from kev, angie & molly (portsmouth)

We stayed at the Number One Guest House (given the name because of the address and not its ranking as we now know) before catching the early morning ferry to Calais.

On arrival at the property the owner was away for a few days so her friend showed us to our room which in fact was a converted garage as far as we are aware. The room was very old fashioned and very damp - you could smell the damp as soon as the door opened. As for the decor - I slept with my tshirt wrapped around the pillow as I didn't want my face to touch it.

We had a shower in the morning - both of us had to duck being over 5 foot 7 each otherwise we wouldn't have got underneath the shower head. The shower room was extremely claustrophobic.

All I can say is don't waste your money - I would have rather have slept in the car.

The Number One Guest House has been a family run establishment for the last 30 years.

I have been inspected by the following AA,RAC & most recently VisitBritain, I have been awarded 4 stars by them, also by the RAC I have be awarded with their Sparkling Diamond Award & Warm Welcome ( for those who may not be aware of what they are it is for very high cleaniness & good hospitality )

I am alittle taken back by the review written about us and very disappointed as the room they are trying to describe is what I term as my garden room which goes into our garden( a room which is requested alot by my return visitors) I can certainly say the room is not damp, and though the decor may have not been to their liking, it is not old fashion just in keeping with my home which is a grade 2 listed georgian town house.

At no time during the brief stay did they bring the matter to our attention or write to us after. Can I just make my last point if my room was as bad as described would you not have just checked out.
