“Among the finest food in Canterbury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

I've been to Rafael's (or the "Good Sheds Restaurant" as many reviewers refer to it) several times over the past year since I moved to Canterbury. I have never been disappointed. The food served here is beautiful - thoughtfully prepared using the best local ingredients, with a nice selection of creative and delicious mains. The beet-walnut-blue cheese salad, the rabbit, and the seafood dishes have all been superb. I've recommended this restaurant to friends and visitors, and have taken family here when visiting from out of town. The prices are comparable to a fine meal in other tasty Canterbury restaurants (e.g. Deeson's) and if you enjoy the bustling atmosphere of a farmer's market, with a bird's-eye view of the activity, this is a great place to dine.

“.....and now for something completely different!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

The whole concept of this place is perfect, Several stalls selling high quality foods and most important.......a store selling some wonderful English beers that you wont find in (m)any pubs or supermarkets! A beer drinker's heaven! We booked a table in Rafael's restaurant on Mother's day and the place was very busy, so a booking is recommended. The food was excellent, if a little pricey, but then again, for food as good as this and the service to go with it, well worth paying for as an occasional treat! It is certainly NOT pub food as described by a recent contributor. If you want run of the mill pub food and pub food prices, dare I say it.......GO TO A PUB!!! This was well out of the ordinary and the staff were very polite, efficient and helpful. A brilliant idea to turn an old railway building into something as wonderful as this

“Give it a go but too pricey for us!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

We always try and support our local growers and farmers but I think the goodsshed restaurant take the biscuit with the price of their breakfast! The service was ok and a nice buzz of people walking around. The quality of food cooked wasn't amazing, undercooked bacon with layers of fat, tiny amount of beans and eggs are 50p for fried £1 for scrambled! We were shocked to find our bill well over £20 for two small build your own breakfasts and teas! Might just be that we are so used to cheap cafés, lots of other people seemed to enjoy though so give it a whirl and see what you think!!!

“Great atmostphere, service, and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

We were very lucky to get a table here, arriving late lunchtime on Mother's day, on spec. As it happened, they'd just had a cancellation.

I was there with my wife and daughter, so between us we tried quite several of the menu items.

The venue is a restaurant in "The Goods Shed" - a food market with local fruit and vegetables, meat, (I think fish), wines, and produce, and other eateries, next to Canterbury West railway station. It's a very pleasant atmosphere (though in cold weather I suspect it's not warm). There's a lot of local food. I don't know if Rafael's gets any of its ingredients from the food outlets in the Shed; but I did notice fresh wild garlic at one of them, and wild garlic in one of the dishes we had, so it's possible.

On the menus they claim that the menus are updated twice a day. Given the presence of the food outlets they may well be.

Our food was all excellent.

Service was pretty good.

Easy walking distance from the main sites/sights of Canterbury - such as the cathedral - this is a good place for a decent meal.

“Excelent place to celebrate new English food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Placed in the beautiful farmers' market, Rafael´s restaurant is catered with fresh, tasty and often local food. The ambience is relaxed and colorfull, and despite being in the same open space as the several stolls in the market, it is quiet enough to enjoy your meal.
The building has been restored fully on briks and wood, making it cozzy and warm.

You can see the cooks preparing your meal, which is served timely, but dont go there in a rush.
The menu is not too extense but is complete. We tried almost all dishes and almost all of them were outstanding.
The cheese selection was somehow limited, taking into accoun that there is a cheese shop in the market. It would be very interesting that customers can directly choose the cheese from the market shop.
If you want a coffee to end your meal we recommend to have it in the cafeteria downstairs.
