“It doesn't worth to visit especially in winter”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

First of all, it's tidy, quite clean and easy to find your way because lots of signs.

On the other hand, the price was unacceptable ( too expensive ) , no offers and most of animals were hiding in their cages. We gust saw a few animal like elephant, tigers, lion , foxes and rhinos.

Furthermore, the road to the zoo is very dangerous for visitor who don't have a car because the bus can not reach the entrance of the zoo so you have to walk approximately 8-10 min to the entrance. The problem is there was no lane for pedestrians. It was very dangerous to walk with cars thats leeds me to call a taxi to go back when i want to leave it was dark.

In my opinion it's a bad idea to visit that zoo especially in the winter.

It's a good zoo but the enter price is exaggerate.

If you think to go April will be perfect to see most of animal.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the presentation of our park. At Howletts we are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our animals, which includes allowing them freedom to roam both indoors and outdoors in their enclosures. Therefore on occasions some of the animals may not always be in sight.

It is also possible to upgrade your regular full-price day ticket to our Passport ticket on the day of entry, which provides unlimited access to the park for the whole year. This provides excellent value for money and many opportunities to return and see our animals. Visitors can also save 20% off day tickets when booked online, providing further fantastic value for money.

We also provide a free minibus service to provide safe and convenient transportation between the park and train station during peak periods and at weekends. We encourage you to call in advance to check the latest minibus availability.

“Whats with all the empty enclosures...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

As the title states that was the downside to the visit. Apart from that it was a fairly enjoyable day out. We wouldn't bother visiting again, value for money isn't very good but at least there are loads of bees to chase my girlfriend around.

At Howletts we are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our animals, which includes allowing them freedom to roam both indoors and outdoors in their enclosures. Therefore on occasion animals may appear to be out of sight. Only 2 of our approximately 90 enclosures are presently empty and have signs on indicating this. We also have a programme of talks and feeds which enables visitors to get up close and learn more about our animals and to see them. We encourage guests to spend more time looking at each enclosure as at times the animals may be out but resting in undergrowth.

It is also possible to upgrade full-price day tickets to our Passport on the day of entry, which offers unlimited access into the park, for no extra cost. This provides excellent value for money and many opportunities to return and see our animals. We have also installed bee traps throughout the park in order to minimise disturbance to our visitor’s day.

“Rip Off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

We went with our grandchildren and all we saw were empty cages, there were only a few gorillas compared to the large family groups that used to be there, I know Aspinal believes in sending them back to the wild but when you pay a fortune to go and see them its not a fun day,

At Howletts we are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our animals, which includes allowing them freedom to roam both indoors and outdoors in their enclosures. Therefore during colder weather some of our animals may choose to stay indoors. Only 2 of our approximately 90 enclosures are presently empty and have signs on indicating this.

We have a programme of talks and feeds which helps visitors to get up close and learn more about our animals and to see them. We encourage guests to spend more time looking at each enclosure as at times the animals may be out but resting in undergrowth. We provide all of our animals with shelter and natural surroundings, as this provides vital enrichment that is fundamental to the exceptional animal welfare that we deliver.

“worth visiting - good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

I have visited a few times over the years. Lovely to see so many gorillas, elephants, capybara, and rhinos. Difficult to see most of the other animals as many hidden behind bushes in enclosures. Lots of walking. The highlight for me and my six year old grandson was the Javan Langurs (unusual monkeys). Well worth walking to the other side of the park to see them. Easily missed. They are behind the bison enclosure. The bison were my grandsons second favourites. Great to see beavers, he had never seen them before. Feel that the capybara should have a lake to swim in as in the wild they would always be swimming around lakes. Price is good because you pay the same for a year pass as a day visit. You can also use Tesco vouchers to pay for a day pass. Overall well worth a visit

“Year Pass - Best Zoo in Kent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

Very diverse selection of animals at Howletts.
It's quite a large park, so if you have young kids, I would advise bringing a push chair. There is also one BIG hill which I have never struggled, but have seen mums etc wobble up slowly!

Been here for every year pretty much over the last 10-15 years and it's great to see such inspiring zoo keepers.

My sister is an avid big cat fan and goes almost every couple of weeks to take pictures of the tiger cub (quite big now!) Has got to know the keeper on a first name basis and knows about the background of each big cat.

Well worth a visit. Plenty of room for parking and even in busiest of summer months, the zoo is large enough to cater for all.
