We are regular visitors to Canterbury, so were pleased to find a new restaurant to try. When we first passed it in the early evening there was just one table taken - which made us reluctant to enter. However, after a quick visit to a local pub we returned to find more tables taken. Thank goodness we committed then, because the restaurant soon filled and we would have not got a table 30 minutes later.
A lovely, friendly waitress made us welcome and she ran the front of house brilliantly with just a little help. The menu is small and written on a chalkboard, but local and seasonal (sooo much better than a huge menu which relies on the microwave). The wine/beer list is also small but the wine was good and well chilled and the beer rated as "great" by fussy husband!. He also does not eat meat but found several delicious small plates to choose from. Local chanterelles with celeriac and poached egg was fab! As was braised beef cheek for me. I couldn't leave without trying a dessert - chocolate fondant with ice cream and armagnac - heavenly. Like other visitors, we were only sorry that we couldn't try everything.
Salt - we will be back but will make sure we book next time
