“Somewhere different for a light lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013 via mobile

There is a warm welcome awaiting you at Salt. The menu is fairly short, but the waitress is very helpful guiding you through. If you are out shopping want a light lunch with a pleasant atmosphere this is for you.

“Fabulous food, too small portions for the money = overpriced and disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

1stly we cannot more highly praise the quality of the food. However as we hardly go out in town anymore and we were celebrating a special occasion this was a really disappointing evening and will say why. We were advised 3 portions each would fill us up - yes if you have a very small appetite. The dishes were small starter sizes. For example we ordered treacle fillet, it had 3 small beef slices, all beit delicious -portion control was stingy. Therefore if you go, order 5-6 portions each if you're hungry. This will cost you £65-84 for two people - before drinks. We left restaurant after ordering 6 dishes and bread dish, and were still really hungry.

“Fine salt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Rustic feel, menus chalked up including the drinks, great atmosphere when full. I enjoyed the 'English tapas' format with a very enticing menu. Chanterelles with soft egg, pigeon and chestnut, braised ox cheek and the veg mix all super. Followed up with poached pears and good coffee, what more could you ask for? Well perhaps an improvement would be a choice of wine apart from the colour as the wine offering is currently single versions of white, pink, red ,fizz, and sweet. That said the white and red I sampled were enjoyable and I understand that the offering might be extended with a 'specials board' going forward which sounds good to me.

I look forward to revisiting soon.

“Superb eatery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Rough around the edges, this new establishment will go a long way. I loved everything about this place and will be coming back soon as it is one of the two best restaurants in Canterbury. Deesons is the other one. Met the owner, he deserves to do well. Faultless food. Fantastic atmosphere.

“A great little restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

If you are in Canterbury for lunch or dinner this place is worth a visit. The place is small, has a great atmosphere with young, friendly, helpful staff. The menu is interesting (think tapas without the Spanish influence), so if you enjoy sampling different dishes rather than the normal starter, main course etc this is the place for you. We had a good selection of dishes which included almond and goats cheese balls and beetroot and cheddar flat bread, washed down with plenty of nice, reasonably priced wine. This is the place to go if you want a casual dinner with friends. I will be back and I will be recommending it to friends..
