We stayed for two nights, while visiting Canterbury for a friends wedding.

The hotel is very pleasent, and we found the staff to be helpful, friendly and very polite.

On our first night, we had dinner in the restaurant, and we were very impressed at the service. The food was nice too.

The bed in our room (203) really let the hotel down, I think I would of had a better nights sleep on a park bench .. well it certainly would not of been any harder. The second night, having been at the Abode hotel all day enjoying a lovely wedding breakfast and free bar .. the bed seemed more bearable, however we had put the spare blankets and the bed spread under the sheet for more padding!

Our room was in the old part of the hotel, and the floor boards were very squeaky, so that and the fact that we had a heard of elephants staying in the room above us meant it was a little noisy too.

Having said this, we will probably stay at the Abbots Barton again should we return to Canterbury.

  • Disliked — The rock hard bed
  • Tips/Secrets: — the bedrooms do not have WiFi, although it is available in the public areas.

The worst hotel management I've ever experienced. Rude, abrupt, got the bill wrong and no apologies at any point in time.

The place also has this vague smell of sewage.

Stay anywhere else, but not here!

The building is beautiful, the blonde receptionist appeared to by very busy and stressed, slightly rude I felt not welcome on arrival.
These prices you charge for a double room I would expect a nice and friendly welcome .

  • Liked — the building
  • Disliked — This unfriendly receptionist , next day I was told by another receptionist she was the head of the reception? Unbeliveble

Well what an extremely expensive room, turned out to be a double in the loft above the kitchens. The bed like a rock and just cramped and small. Food in restuarant was very nice. Building and gardens very nice. But for 160 pounds per nite with breakfast its nothing short of a rip off. Look elsewhere.

I stayed an the Abbots Barton on a number of occasions over a four month period ending in January 2004. It's in a quiet location though only 15 minutes from Canterbury city centre which was one of the reasons for me staying there as there are numerous places to eat in the evening.

The hotel had been recently been refurbished and so was generally in good condition. As a businessman it was ideal for my needs as the rooms were always clean with nice bathrooms though some of the singles were small. Parking was never a problem unless you returned late on Wednesday evening as a local singles club used the hotel bar for meetings !

I never ate in the restaurant apart from breakfeast which was was the usual choice of either continential or cooked. Whenever I had the cooked breakfeast it was freshly cooked and served a piping hot plate ! Service in the restaurant and thoughout was always good.

Overall, this was a good reliable hotel for business use.
