I visited the Holiday Inn Express outside Canterbury on a business trip. Having scoured this and other sites for recommendations of hotels in Canterbury, it looked like this might at least be of a reliable quality, if nothing too interesting.
The hotel is a few miles outside Canterbury, on a dual carriageway by a garage and questionable diner.
The hotel was built in the late-1990s, and is already looking a little tired and old: scuffed walls, lettering picked-off signs, an out of order ice machine, etc. The room was small, the bathroom tiny: no bath, just a shower with a too-short shower curtain, but good quality, large towels.
Most importantly, the bed was comfortable, with good quality linens.
The walls were very thin, making the nighttime antics of a large party of French school children all too audible.
But, my night's stay cost just over £50. It seems I would need to have spent twice that for a very similar experience within the city. So, whilst hard to recommend, at least you won't be fleeced!
