Description: Childhood friends Enzo Espedito welcome you to a little taste of Napoli with Osteria Posillipo Pizzaria quite likely one of Canterburys friendliest restaurants. Decorated in relaxing woods, this light, airy space has the added bonus of being located near the Marlowe Theatre. An in-house wood-fired stone oven is visible from the open-plan kitchen on the ground floor, allowing hungry diners watch their pizzas bubble away the traditional way. Not in the mood for pizza? Traditional Italian favourites are the name of the game here, including fresh, homemade pasta like spaghetti a vongole.

“Decent food, atrocious service!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

I had visited the restaurant a few years ago and had been unimpressed, but when a friend spoke highly of it recently I decided to give it another go. I took my parents on a Monday evening, thinking the restaurant would be quiet, and it was. Unfortunately the service did not reflect this. After being seated we waited over 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken, another 10 minutes for half the drinks to arrive, repeated prompts yielded the rest of the drinks in time for the starter. The food itself was nice enough, better than the awful 'Italian' chains. The waiter's attitude was offhand to say the least, and made us feel as though he was doing us a favour by serving us. Other tables arrived after us and were served before, but all these tables seemed to have tourists at them. Another table with locals on also had major problems with the service.
If you love Italian food it's probably your best bet in Canterbury though don't go if you're in a rush or expecting good service.

“good restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

I would call this a good restaurant and think that trip advisor should have this category... average and very good is too wide. But that aside the restaurant is a good average. The service is fine and the food is also price is fair.

good honest food. A proper stonebake pizza oven and they do an excellent spaghetti with oil and garlic-simple but delicious. family run feel with a nice atmosphere.

“Consistently good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We have eaten here many times over the years and have had consistently good service and delicious food. Can heartily recommend their pizzas cooked in the wood fired oven.

“Disappointed this time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

We've eaten here before and had lovely true Italian food with excellent service however this time we came with 12 people for a staff Christmas party and we're distinctly unimpressed.
Firstly the table wasn't ready for us although we were 5 mins late so we all had to stand in very cramped conditions while they put the tables together with no word of apology. The tables were distinctly sticky -surely not difficult to give a good clean - which felt really unpleasant.. Secondly, 2 of our guests had chairs pressed up against poles so they had to keep well tucked in all night which looked very uncomfortable and claustrophobic .
Thirdly, we placed our order by 8:30 only to be told that three people had to change their dishes as they'd run out of chicken! On a Saturday night in December when they're fully booked, that is surely terrible planning.
The food was ok but nothing great.
I got the impression that as this was their really busy time they didn't care too much about anything. It's a real shame. One of the waiters is an absolute delight but the rest of the staff were very surly. I know for sure that we won't be going back next year for our Christmas do.
On another note the Posillipo in Faversham is wonderful!
