“Thatched, Good Food, Oldest Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

The Sun Inn was a fantastic and unexpected find. I took part in a guided fossil hunt on Brighstone beach and walked easily to Hulverstone for lunch.

The Sun is a beautiful, thatched pub with stunning views from the large dining room and cozy bar area if you fancy a traditional pint.

The menu was varied and I was pleased to see a specials board. The desserts even had their own specials lust! I didn't see any salads but having been in the Isle of Wight for almost a week now I actually haven't seen many salads anywhere.

My lunch was served quickly and very hot, on a hot plate. This was welcomed. The bathroom was very clean and I got cash back with my purchase so I could take a taxi to the shipwreck museum (highly recommended).

I was surprised and pleased to get cash back. I was helped with my taxi and I can highly recommend Jan's taxis. There is a bus stop opposite The Sun but buses on the island are not frequent so plan your journey ahead of time.

“Gorgeous views south to the Channel with surprisingly good pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Went there with a group of friends while glamping nearby. Lovely service and spectacular views. Food was very good. The sea bass with mussels were particularly impressive. Nice beer and dog friendly. Will definitely go back next time we're on the Isle of Wight.

“Great food, live music and a sea view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Great food with live music and a sea view. A little expensive for a family of 4 with desserts and drinks, we came back a second time and did a main course with less expensive drinks.

“Eats shoots & leaves”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

This quaint looking thatched pub in the idyllic countryside setting of Hulverstone with fabulous sea views, is a delight to visit on a balmy summers day. But the food is a letdown. It has really disappointed on my last few visits, by providing reheated and dried out food, so for lunch today I chose a sweet chilli chicken bap with leaves, thinking that you can't go wrong with a something so simple. I can only assume that the reference to "leaves" is what the customers do when they find there is next to no chicken in the baps!

“Wonderful food and great atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Recently called in for an evening meal. Much more spacious that first appears, and despite a rather bare bar area, it had a nice restaurant area at the back and lots of space outside - which since this was in the heatwave, was very busy. Decent range of menu items and helpful, friendly staff. Despite the fact that it was so busy, food arrived quite quickly, and was well presented and tasty.
To add to a very satisfactory meal in a relaxing atmosphere, was the live music based in a canvas gazebo outside (but piped inside).
Overall a really delightful summer evening in a village pub.
