We visited Hatfield House in April 2005. It was a rainy day that became sunny, just long enough to peruse the gardens and take some nice shots of the house, the old palace and the gardens. It was beautiful, a great break from the hustle and bustle of London, only a twenty minute train ride away from King's Cross Station. The house staff was happy to answer questions and extremely knowledgeable concerning British history, architecture, art, and the house. The art collection inside has the most famous portraits of Elizabeth I, I was shocked to see them there! I think that we would have enjoyed a formal guided house tour a little more, that is why I did not rate it at the highest. This was a trip out of London that we did in about four hours total. Also take a walk through the town and make your way to St. Ethelreda’s Church.
