“Good pub grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Called in for a snack lunch - sandwiches with a side of chips. After a very long wait, the food arrived, fresh and hearty sandwiches, hot chips and all reasonably priced. This, together with the pub being a proper old fashioned pub that has avoided any stereo-type makeover would encourage me to return.

Have to agree with the previous reviewer - I too thought the batman was a random customer who happened to be passing thro the bar and serving en-route!

“Good food, long wait”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

We visited the pub for a traditional pub lunch which is exactly what we got and for good money. Unfortunatly the wait was rather long, and like many others, we waited for a good 45 minutes to an hour. The service was average but the bar man look scruffy and couldn't tell if he was working or a random customer serving behind the bar.

“Very busy, quirky local pub serving good quality food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Crowded and quite cramped but that was because of the type of building it is. Staff were helpful and friendly. Meals were of good quality. We stayed a long time afterwards poring over brochures and no one made us feel in the way, which was appreciated, though I apologise if we did overstay.

“I have never had ruder service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

This is a local pub for us and one which we haven't visited that frequently even though we do drink in town at least three times a week. We thought we would give it another try and I have to say I have never had such dreadful bar service. My husband was not happy with his drink and with good reason and at first was pretty much told that was tough and then it was poured into a glass so violently that nearly half of it went all over the bar. No apology and no top up offered. I have worked in pubs for many years and also drink in them regularly but have never quite experienced anything so rude - we left after the first drink and won't be going back!

“Good range of beers and traditional pub food at a good price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is a little gem of a place, very traditional and unspoiled. The food is basic and traditional, but cheap and plentiful. The pies were great. The staff very friendly. Perfect for a traditional English pub lunch.
