“A Lucky Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2007

We found this gem of an hotel whilst driving through Herefordshire on our way to Wales. Luckily they had a cancellation and we were offered a double en suite room, full of beams and character at the back of the hotel

The room was spotless and had everything one might need when away from home. The furnishings a mix of contemporary and traditional.

A quick drink in the bar listening to the chat between locals, other guests and staff proved to be a foretaste of what was to come. The staff were helpful, smiled and seemed to take a genuine interest in everyone.

Supper, in their popular brasserie, was delicious.

Next morning a swim in the heated indoor hotel pool followed by an English breakfast served by yet another smiling member of staff.

Our stay at The Feathers was reflected in the whole atmosphere of the hotel. The owner/managers have obviously done a great job in selecting and training their staff as well as spending time caring for this lovely old building.

Next time we will stay for more than one night.

Ledbury is a gem of a town, and despite its proximity to the M50/M5 motorway, relatively unspoiled with a wealth of half-timbered buildings and a stunning church. The Feathers is a classic right on the High Street -- it's an old-fashioned hotel, a coaching inn dating from 1600, and really the type of small town hotel that used to exist all over England when I was growing up, but which seems to have largely vanished.

Service was excellent; my flight from Spain had been diverted from Birmingham and I advised that I would be arriving latish. I was ushered with great courtesy into the dining room at 21h25, five minutes before closing, and was able to select an excellent dinner from the well-presented menu. Food and wine were of high standard. Room: less good, in that it was full of lovely quirky charm, but cluttered with some indifferent quality furniture. Still, just the one demerit from EXCELLENT to ABOVE AVERAGE.

Ample parking at the rear. Breakfast next morning was a treat - perfectly cooked (grilled, not fried) bacon/sausage etc., and poached eggs.

Public areas are on the plus side of adequate.

The location cannot be bettered, and the overall impression this hotel makes is very positive. Pity about the clutter in the room.

The en-suite door was unpainted.
Poor selection/quality/quantity of complimentary items offered.
Service at breakfast (this repeats itself from other reviews) was appalling. The buffet table was decimated only 30 minutes after breakfast was available. One member of staff only to support a full weekend breakfast serving.

All this at premium prices.

One to avoid.

Nice four poster bedroom, but at quite a price (£195 per night). Well looked after in the restaurant in the evening. Enjoyed a swim in the morning. But the shine was taken off the whole visit by the appalling service at breakfast. Took half an hour just to get a cup of coffee! The excuse was that someone hadn't turned up for work, but at the prices they are charging they should be able to pay for agency staff when needed! And management have ignored e-mail complaint--not so much as a simple apology!

I visited The Feathers last weekend for a quiet break away from London with promises of walks on Malverns feet up by roaring log fires, fine food and plenty of vino and was that was just what I got.

The Hills were a 10 minute drive away, the bar had a cracking log fire, in which we spent a lovely afternoon with a couple of real ales and the papers before a super meal in Fuggles. We then had a quiet swim on Sunday morning before before checking out throughly relaxed! I'd highly recommend this hotel!

My wife and I stayed at The Feathers Ledbury for four nights in July 2005. Our room was large and comfortable and the squeaky floor boards added to the character of the place. The service was cheerful and we ate in Fuggles each night. Good variety and quality food and not over-priced.

I felt I have to write after the only review was so awful. I got married at the Feathers in January '05 - after staying there twice before. It is an olde worlde coaching inn. The staff are lovely and the food in the restaurant is fantastic - and you get large portions. The rooms are all lovely and different in their own way with beams, antiques and all the modern luxuries. It is spotlessly clean (my wedding dress was unmarked after a whole day of wandering around). The swimming pool; jacuzzi and steam room (although small) is clean and a nice place to unwind in the afternoon.
