“Visit to The Hop Pole”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

I was with a party of Welsh Rugby supporters in Hereford for the weekend that Wales played England in the 6-nations finale 2013. We had been told that we could reserve a booth to watch the match on TV. I asked the man who was opening up about it - and he was taken aback by my question. "How can we possibly organise that?" he asked me. "It would be chaos." It was my turn to be taken aback later - twice. Once when we saw a booth had a RESERVED sign on it, and on leaving, a blackboard advertised the reservation service. Other than that, there was a good atmosphere and the food was fine. Limited to just one real ale being on offer, though. I'm glad Wales won!

“Great food, bad staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

I came to the hop pole last week and sampled the new menu, the food was fantastic and delicious, looked great and tasty (just like the chef!, she was naturally beautiful) perfect member of staff, (should be management) as she helped us with our dietary requirement with out making us feel silly and had a great understanding of products and ingredients used and made us feel welcome, talked to us, made us laugh..........unlike the bar staff!
The "lady" behind the bar was too busy socialising with what we can only guess was her boyfriend who was sat at the bar the entire time! Had to wait for drinks and felt ignored by her! Instead I has to listen to the fact that she had just had a new tattoo for her mother and that she can't wait to get drunk that weekend!
Maybe the manager needs to rethink staffing as that's is not what you need in a pub! Ask the chef to take control of the staff and they could learn a lot from her!

“The worst hotel in the United Kingdom”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Friends visiting Hererordshire had unwittingly visited the pub for a drink & light snack. The beer was almost undrinkable and the light snack , uneadable. They invited us to meet with them in the bar, the place was dingy , unloved, dirty, with sticky bar and tables. We are old enough to remember The Hop Pole when the food and ambiance was 5 star, and people travelled for 60 miles to sample their Excellant food. Not now , our dog has a cleaner kennel, and better food.

“Great fresh food and great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

Went into wetherspoons next door, waited an age to be served! Luckily for us went into the hop pole and had 2 meals red wine and a pint for 11 pound! Discount for BUS and real homemade chips and fresh salad, great place, avoid wetherspoons.

“Hit the spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

Popped into the Hop Pole yesterday (Sunday afternoon) just for a quick bite to eat. Was fairly quiet which was nice and actually managed to see the new decor which is good too! Had a burger and chips (Spicy hot burger, cant remember the actual name). The food was nice and hot, fresh and I really enjoyed the burger, nice big bit of beef and very spicy, which hit the spot. I thought the chips were amazing, very big and lovely and crispy but fluffy inside. All in a all a good value 'pub' meal. Definitely the best pub to eat in along Commercial Road.
