We booked a table for two for a late afternoon Sunday roast, as we had previously had Sunday lunch here with family and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is nice to have somewhere that serves all afternoon and the food most definitely didn't suffer as a result.
Our roast beef meals were fantastic in terms of quality, portion, presentation and flavour and were piping hot. The veggies were cooked to perfection, tasty and hot. The puddings were sensational, coconut pie was a very unusual offering and when it came it was scrummy. The price was exceptionally reasonable for the two courses each and drinks.
There were just a couple of minor niggles - we ordered a glass of wine from the impressive wine list with the meal. Halfway through the meal we had to chase this as it hadn't arrived, it arrived when the meal had almost been finished. The waitress was lovely and knowledgable about the menu, but she had very long hair that was not tied back, this didn't sit too well with me. I prefer long hair to be tied back of those in and out of the kitchen and serving food - I even tie my own hair back when in the kitchen at home!
The pub itself is lovely, a typical olde worlde country pub with beams and flagstone floors. It has a lovely large garden with ample outdoor seating and some play equipment for younger children. There is a large car park. The restaurant side of the pub is spacious and airy, there's plenty of space, yet a cosy atmosphere. There are fabulous open fireplaces both on the bar and restaurant side. The welcome is always warm and friendly. We are now loyal customers and will return at every opportunity.
Paul and Margareta are the perfect landlord and landlady, they have years of experience in hospitality and this really shows.
