Windy roads, miles and miles of lush green open countryside, the build up to our stay as we drove to The Lawns was filled with expectation. The house itself, at the end of a discreet, long, tree lined driveway, was unexpectedly grand. The entrance hall suggested a grand interior aswell. We received a very warm welcome from the owners Ralph and Elizabeth, aswell as their Rhodesian Ridgeback and terrier. We found them to be immediately engaging. The large 7 bedroom farmhouse went on for ever as do the lawns that surround the house!! Our room overlooked the driveway and was a very generously sized twin (alot bigger than some hotels I have stayed in) with ensuite toilet and shower. I would characterize the feel of the house as eclectic, relaxed and rambling, but where one feels essentially at home. We felt very much guests in their home as opposed to just £ signs in some characterless, sterile B&B. It reminded me of my Father's house! Ralph and Elizabeth were both very chatty and helpful with local information and recommended to us a superb little pub about 15 mins drive away. Breakfast the next day, after a super night's sleep, was sumptuous and fit for a king. All local produce, sausages, apple juice, eggs etc. Both my friend and I used to work in the 4 star hotel industry and have pretty high standards, so we do tend to scrutinize and analyze in a professional way. Ralph and Elizabeth do what alot of B&B owners simply fail to do and that is engage and show warmth of hospitality. It is the people that make places. I would highly recommend their home to stay.
