“Great pub, service & food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Lunch lived up to all the favourable reviews. Food choice, quality and price very good and service was extremely friendly and unflustered despite being packed. This was our first visit, looking forward to the next time.

“Satisfyingly good evening.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We came to the plough for a late christmas dinner and weren't disappointed!!!! We were sat in a lovely quiet area so we could all talk and hear each other even though the pub was full. There was a good choice of food which when arrived was delicious, everybody cleared their plates and we all left satisfied.

“Lovely, cosy, warm, welcoming pub!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

What a delightful, warm, cosy welcoming pub - exactly what you picture in mind when you think of a wonderful English country pub - and it's even more than that. The chalkboards of food to select from are very extensive with a tremendous array of options - although to be fair, there were no vegan options so I had to opt for a vegetarian dish (there were only two options, neither of them ideal as they contained cheese and cream, but I had to eat something - didn't want to go hungry). It seems that out in the country (not just in this pub), pubs only really cater for meat/game/fish/chicken eaters - vegans can forget about finding anything other than the very very occasional vegetarian pasta-type cream/cheese dish or if you're lucky, upon request, a bowl of steamed veggies. My pasta dish with mushrooms was sadly bland, the sauce was very thin and watery, it wasn't hot and it was disappointing - like they just have not really got much of an idea how to prepare a dish that's non-meat/chicken etc. The rest of my extensive family are major carnivores so they had no problems selecting from the vast array of meat, chicken, game and fish dishes. They all said their food was excellent, large portion sizes and they did all look very nicely presented. They spent the evening oohing and aahing about their food, and my sister in law was too full to finish her duck, so she took it home and had it for breakfast the following morning- that's how good it was apparently!

Even taking the food out of it - just the atmosphere and warmth alone were worth the visit - it was lovely - a great setting, very warm, very welcoming, just how a pub should be! A very nice, cosy evening out, even though my father in law Mike got lost on the drive over with me in his new car with him (he was so busy showing it off that he missed the turn and we ended up driving about 5 miles in the wrong direction!) and we had to fib and tell people he was just showing me a bit of the local countryside. I'm not supposed tell this to anyone, but he has played so many practical jokes on me in the past that I'm finally getting even, even though he may not ever know as I don't think he reads tripadvisor. I'M FINALLY GETTING EVEN!!!! :-)
