“Beautiful house and great hosts”

The Grange

May 31, 2008

We and 2 other couples stayed at The Grange for 2 nights. Nigel and Jeanne have a beautiful home and we were welcomed on arrival with tea and coffee in the lovely lounge. Our room (with a four poster)was very large with a separate dressing area and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and separate shower. It was very clean and comfortable. We needed somewhere to eat the first night and they recommended The Old Vine in Winchester which they then booked for us (we can now recommend it too!). There is a good choice for breakfast which is served in the conservatory overlooking the large garden which, had it not been raining for a lot of the time, would have been lovely to sit in. We spent a whole day in the New Forest which is approx 20 miles away and on our day of departure Jeanne suggested a guided tour of Winchester College which was really interesting and informative. We had a coffee at the nearby Wykeham Arms after-unfortunately we couldn't manage lunch as we were still full from breakfast but it looked good!
We really enjoyed our short break in a very nice part of the world and in lovely accommodation with charming and friendly hosts.

Our stay at The Grange could not have been better. Nigel and Jeanne are the perfect hosts from their welcoming tea and biscuits to the personal touch they offer all their guests. We stayed in the room with the hot tub and came away investigating the cost of installing one at home. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast in the conservatory was first class. We must not forget to mention Jaffa the Labrador retriever: inconspicuous but friendly. The view from the garden over Winchester is not to be missed. We feel that 4 stars are definitely insufficient for this very special bed and breakfast with the home from home atmosphere, our stay felt more like staying with old friends as nothing was too much trouble for this very special couple. Thank you for a lovely two day stay just wasn’t long enough!!!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Grange for just one night in March 2008 but were very impressed by the cleanliness, comfort and general ambience. The owners were both extremely pleasant and made us both feel very welcome. We were given tea and coffee on arrival and asked if we would like to book somewhere to eat that evening. After some suggestions from the owner we chose a Chinese restaurant in Winchester which he then phoned and booked a table for us! Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The Grange is situated in a very quiet spot yet just minutes from Winchester city centre. After a perfect night's sleep we had an excellent breakfast the next morning before, unfortunately, having to leave for home. We would recommend this Hotel without any hesitation.

“Enormously peaceful”

We stayed at the Grange for one night. Its slightly out of the town (about 15-20 mins) but its a very special B&B!

Its just like staying in someone's home - with lots of special pictures on the walls from the owners' travels around Asia. The house and the gardens are both very large - and very different to a "normal" B&B. The breakfast room is a conservatory which was very beautiful (had it not been raining constantly, it would have been an amazing view!).

Our room was large and comfortable - and the breakfast was good too. But it was the hospitality that was most special - the hosts were very friendly and even though we were sad about the weather, it turned out to be a great weekend!

Having stayed in a few hotels in and around Winchester, I wanted to find somewhere that was reasonably priced and in walking distance of the centre due to an early morning meeting (as parking can be a nightmare in Winchester).

My partner and I booked into The Grange and had a great welcome from the two owners (and their lovely dog). They are now offering dinner on some evenings and we wish we had stayed at The Grange for some food rather than walking to the Wykeham Arms near the Cathedral. The Wykeham Arms has a great atmosphere but the food was a bit of a disappointment (the people on the next table to us had also ordered the lamb and we overheard them complaining to the waiter saying it wasn't anywhere near it's normal standard).

Anyway, back to The Grange. Breakfast was fantastic - my partner is still comparing everywhere else we've been to the quality of the breakfast at The Grange.....and keeps reminding me that we should have stayed at The Grange for dinner as breakfast was so good!

Will now book into The Grange whenever I'm working in Winchester. Great people and true quality.
