We had a lovely stay here. The owner, who booked us in, was efficient and friendly. The family suite has a separate sitting area with a sofa bed. The bed was made up after we'd dropped off out luggage and there was a lovely touch; hot chocolate sachets put out for the children and the toys the kids had left in the room arranged in a little tableau on the bed!
The room and bathroom were beautifully appointed and there were good quality toiletries. There are a few friendly animals in the hotel which is a bonus for children, including a dog, Mrs Bridges the parrot and a cat to greet my husband when he came in late from an evening reunion in the town. The night time is not entirely silent; you can hear the odd train and occasional animal noise and while this may not appeal to everyone it didn't bother us at all.
Breakfast was plentiful and very good quality; it was fairly busy the weekend we were there but four cooked breakfasts arrived quickly. Giffard House is in a very nice part of town, a few minutes walk from College, Cathedral and town. Highly recommended and really very good value.
