I stayed in this hotel on a cold, wet, Monday night in January with some trepidation, having read some of the reviews, but came away entirely happy.
The staff were polite and efficient, the room (admittedly an executive room) was of a good size with a decent amount of space for clothing and the bed was comfortable. In the bathroom there were bathrobes, a selection of toiletries and plenty of hot water.
The bar was busy, but with good service and the restaurant lived up to its AA rosette.
Admittedly the council car park in front of the hotel is a bit off-putting and the difference between it and the hotel car parking may not be clear, but the reception staff made sure I understood. The surrounding streets aren't Winchester's finest, but it is only 10 minutes walk to the town centre.
It's not a country house hotel and doesn't claim to be, but a modern hotel on the outskirts of town convenient for the M3 and Winchester.
