“Great Stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

We've just come back from two nights at this hotel and we had a great time. We booked a club room and ours was nicely decorated, clean and quiet despite there being a wedding downstairs on the first night (which we couldn't hear at all)... and we loved the enormous bed!

We didn't get a chance to use the pool or spa so I can't comment on those, but all the staff we came across, from the reception staff to the restaurant and cleaners were all really friendly and on bringing a couple of minor issues to their attention, they sorted these out immediately. We ate in the restaurant both nights (the second by default) and found the food was excellent with the two course menu being good value too. The breakfast offered a great choice as well. They absolutely deserve their 4 star rating which fits perfectly, unlike some other places we've stayed.

Nothing to do with the hotel, but just a tip for staying in Winchester, if you want to eat outside of the hotel, make sure you book a table well in advance - we planned to eat out on our second night and there wasn't a table free in in any of them.

I recently went on a Spa day at this hotel and unfortunately was bitterly disappointed in the service we received. We paid £25 for use of the Spa and £45 on top of this for treatments. Although the treatment itself was lovely, I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the rest of the facilities. The pool was small, cold and overlooked by the gym. It wasn't particularly relaxing and we couldn't consume food or beverages by the poolside. The changing facilities were small and got cramped. This was a Monday so goodness knows how it is at a weekend. If this wasn't all enough we then had to pay for parking to leave, even though as a group we had spent £300!! I think that this is ridiculous and the £25 should include parking for the day. We will not be returning and I recommend anyone else gives it a miss and chooses somewhere else.

Dear Guest

It is of course clear from your review and those of your friends left recently that you were dissapointed with your Spa Day - which is a great concern to me given the many many happy customers we look after on a daily basis in our Spa - both for individual treatments and also Spa Day and Spa Break packages.

I would be very grateful if you would contact me directly at the hotel to discuss your concerns further.

Booked a spa break with 3 friends and had a lovely weekend at this hotel. Good location right near the train station and a short walk from Winchester city centre. The rooms were spotless and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our time in the spa, although the sauna was quite small and as the spa got busier throughout the day this meant we were sometimes waiting to use the facilities we wanted.
Dinner was excellent - lovely food (steak was particularly good) and really great service from all the restaurant and bar staff. Breakfast was also excellent.
The reception staff were welcoming and helpful (especially Julie from the reservations team who sorted out an initial problem with my booking very efficiently) however we found the spa team didn't quite give the same level of service as the rest of the staff.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a great value short break in a lovely location.

Booked a spa day (£25 each) with friends and was very disappointed in condition of spa and pool-cold water and not very good facilities. Small sauna and steam room.
Couldn't take beverages into pool area and didn't feel very plush or a nice spa experience. Fortunately we all booked a deluxe detox/Destress massage £45 each which was lovely and great service by the spa girls but was highly disappointed that on leaving the hotel we then has to pay for hotel parking.
What hotel charges quests for parking in their hotel??!!

Disgraceful service, esp as we had all spent a lot on the spa etc- it really was a cheek!

I booked this hotel on a a Sunday and the deal included Bed breakfast, evening meal with a bottle of wine for two people £99. I like most thought provided the bed is clean we will be OK. How surprised I was to find a modern clean well located hotel with ample parking (free on Sunday). The evening meal was excellent, the staff were wonderful and breakfast was good. Overall I was impressed. I know I will be visiting again

Although the provision has to be applauded, we were very disappointed to be allocated an accessible room, Because of multiple adaptations the bath was too shallow, the toilet too high and without a lid, the wash basin too low and the extra provision of multiple hand rails and alarm cords made this feel more like a clinic than the romantic ambient room we had hoped for, especially for an anniversary celebration! The room was clean, bottled water waiting in the fridge was a nice touch and breakfast was delicious. The pool area was good for jacuzzi and steam but for swimming it fails to provide enough space, even if you have it to yourself. Parking is an issue - plenty of space but who books four star to then have to mess about finding change for the parking meter! Would stay here again if reassured of a non-adapted room, on the strength of the breakfast and proximity to centre if travelling by train but not by car.

Room Tip: If you don't need access adaptations, tell the hotel you don't want them

Hotel car park is impossible if you have anything bigger than a fiat 500 - use the council car park ou front instead. would have been 4 stars but cooked buffet breakfast cold and hot tap for bath did not work
