“Marvellous food, friendly staff and clean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I have to say the cod & chips at the Crown & Anchor was absolutely superb. The staff are friendly and cheerful and the toilets were immaculate! I only wish we had a pub as good as this near where I live.

“Friendly pub and the food looks great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We had been recommended this pub and have now been in a few times on our visits to Winchester. Very friendly welcome and fast and efficient service. We haven't eaten there but the food looks great and looking at the menu proper home cooked grub NOT the pre prepped stuff you get in the pub chains. Note to self - eat there next time !

“Quality, value and gravy to die for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

After trying the gorgeous fish and chips I have since been back to sample the Sunday roast and was not disappointed. The meat was 'melt in the mouth' succulent and roast potatoes to match. I was also pleasantly surprised to find somewhere that makes proper gravy, a welcome change from the bisto fuelled pubs and restaurants that dominate the city. All in all I have been very impressed with the range and quality of food served at the crown and anchor.

“why can't all pubs be this good!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Second visit,many more to come.
So much fish to choose from, very friendly staff, obviously take great pride in the cooking.
Very reasonably priced.
Chef even asked if i wanted chorizo in the fish stew, as a fish eating vegetarian i didn't, very nice to be asked.
Loch Fyne doesn't come anywhere near the quality and quantity of fresh fish at this pub.

“A pleasant surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Decided to try this place out as I had heard they did good gluten free food, and my coeliac father-in-law was staying for a few days. I'm a local, and had walked past this place for the last two years.

What a surprise! Not only is it a really friendly pub - the husband and wife team who run it have put a lot of work into making it friendly and accommodating, but the food is amazing for a quite reasonable price. It's a local with good food and beer, without the pretension of trying to be a gastropub.

They are quite proud of their gluten free fish and chips which came in many varieties - apparently quite a rarity!

Happy to say we've found a new regular haunt.
