How many b&bs offer you an ensuite bedroom, sitting room and separate dining room for your exclusive use? OK. There have to be at least three of you - there are two ensuite bedrooms - but having booked the two rooms for one night we had the whole house to ourselves. It's a really clever arrangement: two terraced houses with the adjoining wall at ground floor level opened out (it can be closed with doors). So you go in our own front door to the dining room with the cutest fireplace (real fire for breakfast); next door is a cosy sitting room again with a log fire and upstairs the two bedrooms. Both are comfortable and with properly fitted and tiled bathrooms - none of this bathroom in a cupboard junk that we Brits were once so keen on (and probably still are in certain places). Your hosts live next door and come through the adjoining wall to make sure you're OK and to serve breakfast - homemade marmalade, loadsa toast and nicely cooked eggs and mushrooms. We were there for a family lunch party the next day so I can'ttell you much about the town. We took a taxi in that night (it's not a long hike but my mum is 93!!) and had trouble finding somewhere to eat so I'd recommend booking in advance if you want something decent. There is a pub within easy walking distance but we weren't in the mood for piled high plates (their portions are very generous we were told). But this b&b is absolutely worth the small trek into town. It's also quiet of course, being in a residential area, and we could park right outside the door (permit provided by your hosts). And because my mum was cold they left the heating on all night for her. Can't recommend it more highly. Just make sure you book the two rooms, take your own booze (some is provided - help yourself and pay appropriately but they didn't have our favourite tipples), have aperitifs before you go out to dinner and post-prandial nightcaps on your return in front of a log fire. Perfect. And for those of you who enjoy celebrity spotting: guess who's in the pic on the mantelpiece... Your hostess is Jeremy's big sister. Their website has pics of all rooms. Not over priced either.
